So we know the g-man "plucked" Alyx from Black Mesa. He says he acted in the face of objections. Eli would be the obvious one to object, but from the flicker on the screen behind him it would imply that it was Breen who objected. I wonder how all this came about. Perhaps Breen was with Alyx and Azian at the time. Breen and Eli were friends so it's possible that Breen endind up with the two after the cascade.

My guess is some sort of deal was struck. Save Alyx (and maybe Breen and others) in exchange for the free use of Alyx. I don't see Eli agreeing to this type of deal and Alyx would have been too young to make any kind of deal. Breen argued for a different deal but ended up taking it in the end. This would also give Eli a personal reason to hate Breen.

Just as a point of interest: Now that we know that the g-man seems to have a pretty direct control of Alyx, Alyx's amazing ability to find exactly where Gordon is (Once in Point Insertion and once in Anticitizen One) can be seen in a different light. I always thought it odd how she'd show up with little more than a comment like "I thought I'd find you here."

Eh.... Well... Um...Yea...I think alyx find gordon by instinct not by gman but good point....Eh or she just randomly ran into gordon btw i think gman and breen where good friends until the insident in black mesa

I find it unlikely that the G-man was ever "good friends" with anyone. As the donor of the Xenian sample he would likely have had good contact with Breen, but I really doubt he was friendly enough to have an actual emotional attachment.

On the main topic, this is an interesting idea. It is worth noting that Alyx doesn't seem to even know the G-man exists at all. The time we clearly know he's controlling her, he isn't present in the room at all (instead flickering on the screen).

I disagree actually. I think that perhaps Eli may have instigated a deal with G-man. It is quite obvious that there is a strong family bond between Alyx and Eli, and this could ultimately be the reason as to why Eli would agree to a deal with the G-man.

Eli seems to develop strong emotional attachments to people as well (Alyx, Gordon, Izzy. etc ) and with the death of Azian, without Alyx his whole family, his legacy, would be destroyed. He must have been torn between the need to see Alyx again and the hatred of seeing her being made a pawn. But I think the need to see his daughter again would win over. :)

Hmm now that you think about it yea gman isnt emotinal to be friends with enyone ..... Hmmm that leaves only 1 question untelled how did gman get hes power Dun DUN dun DUNNNN!!!

I think that the G-man and his employers act as trans-dimensional arms dealers, starting
conflicts, such as the Resonance Cascade and the Combine invasion. They then recruit
beings of the world that they have targeted who have dealt with the conflict well enough
to be of use (such as Gordon) and sell their services to both sides in the conflict while the G-man and his employees divulge information and supply technologies that keep the conflict, and their business going. However despite having great power they can't directly interfere with the inhabitant's of a world directly, only manipulate to achieve their goals.

In HL1 Breen, somehow able to contact the G-man to secure the crystal used in the test
("The administrator went to some lengths to get it.") In exchange for helping the G-man and his employers set up shop on Earth the G-man promised Breen power over humanity. Eli found this out and soon had found through research that the G-man and his employers
had been manipulating humanity throughout history in order to reach the point where
his employers could finally put their plans into action. The G-man soon found out about
Eli's knowledge of him and planned to keep him quiet.

In order to gain Eli's trust the G-man breaks the non-interference rule of his employers
and uses his abilities to remove Alyx from Black Mesa, forming a contract with Eli to keep
Alyx safe from harm as long as Eli did not divulge the G-man's secrets. The G-man however, implanted commands into Alyx's subconscious: should she ever come into contact with Gordon her objective was to keep tabs on his actions and should any of
Freeman's actions interfere with the G-man's prevent him from continuing on. Alyx is
acting like a sleeper agent for the G-man and can be taken over to address anyone
the G-man needs to communicate with such as Eli in EP2. She is close enough to Gordon that she can follow the G-man's commands without raising suspicion

Just thought of something else. Alyx is absolutly certain that she'll find Gordon buried in the rubble despite how incredibly improbable it would be. Perhaps the g-man made a small intervention while the Vortigaunts were finished with their rescue (and quite possibly tired).

Breen might've objected b/c w/o Alyx Gordon never would have beat the Combine

... Breen argued for a different deal but ended up taking it in the end.

lol

also, why would the gman want Alyx, she doesn't have an awesome suit, nor can she carry ten weapons at the same time.

Alyx is one of the best weapons the resistance have at their disposle, very inteligent, expert in all things mechanical and seems to be able to kick just as much as Combine ass as Gordon and Barney, I would say she is a vary handle tool.

I took 'acting in the face of objections' to mean that his employers objected to him saving Alyx? After all, he does mention elsewhere that they place little value in her, whilst he (gman) does.

No, but unlike Gordon she knows how to use a sniper rifle.

Yeah but she can go more places than Gordon, Adrian, and Barney can.
Y'know, she can roll under low walls and other things.

I'm pretty sure Gordon can use anything with the barrel.

What if the role of the G-man is like that of the Dread Pirate Roberts? The current G-man would have been observed and influenced in the background by the previous one until the time is right for them to
inherit the title and powers of the G-man. Alyx has had major events in her life such as Black Mesa
and her father's death influenced by the G-man. Also she does posess an almost G-man like ability
to find where Gordon is as stated by Riomhaire, Alyx could be on the path to becoming the successor to the G-man

At least it's a step away from it being Gordon...
