At the begining of episode 1, he comes to talk, so far he only does that when you start a job or finish one. So what could this job have been?

Or maybe he was trying to intervene when the Vorts were stoling gordon.

His reaction when he comes out the "The scary door" is supprise; he didnt know they would be there.

He sensed a disturbance in the force!

I highly doubt he had another "mission" for you.

I think that the door he was walking through was the door you saw him walking out of when Half-Life 2 ended.

I think it basically implies he'd taken up one of those offers he mentioned at the end of HL2. So yes, it was basically another job.

Agreed. It'd be great to know what offer Gordon would recieve

The door at the end of HL2 opens sideways, and in Epi1 it opens upwards!:O

Oh, that Gman! Turning himself into a TV, teleporting effortlessly, and now turning doors sideways! Quite a character. :p

Yeah, I think it was pretty obvious the Gman had accepted another job on Gordon's behalf. I think the Gman's latest "clients" aren't to happy with this unexpected outcome. Maybe the Gman will regain control of Gordon through his clients efforts, if only for a short time. The Gman isn't done with Gordon, oh no definitely not. Neither is Breen I imagine, but that is a different thread.

Why is everyone so convinced the Gman has another job for Gordon...

Is it so likely that the Vorts decided to pwn the Gman at the EXACT same time the Gman tried to release Gordon from stasis? And assuming you're going to counter that with a "well the Vorts can only do something when the Gman has... 'unlocked' Gordon", you realize how long the Vorts may have had to wait for that?

In my opinion, the Gman was just witnessing Gordon get snatched.

Gman was just witnessing Gordon get snatched? Hardly. He came in with the usual, malicious smile and literally opened his mouth to speak when he was disturbed by a flashing blue light. You clearly tell from his expression that he had no idea what was about to happen, and his comment at the end proves that "We'll see about THAT!"

He was absolutely pissed. Gordon is his tool, his bargaining chip - his agent. About eight hours earlier he was informing you that several offers from various contractors had arisen, and Valve pinned this on the fact that 'great change was occurring within the HL universe'. Gman had obviously taken up one of these offers and had come to de-brief you.

And yes, it is very likely - probably because it is the only time they could actually get to Gman. If they simply extracted Gordon the Gman would probably be able to snap him up in no time, but they needed to catch Gman unawares. Also, it was there to show the player exactly what was going on. These things have to happen in games. How dull would it be if they just came in, got you and left? Quite.

Sorry if I sounded harsh...I certainly didn't mean it. Tis just me. :)

I know :)

And it didn't sound harsh D:

And here was me thinking you were a newbie. Ohhhhh. I can't decide what to do with you.

How did the G-Man already contemplate all those offers, seeing as how Episode 1 takes place about 6 seconds after Half Life 2?

It takes place about 8 hours after HL2, acctually.

He didn't have his suitcase, maybe it was just a routine checkup. Maybe he sensed some disturbance in the "place" where gordon was stored and came to check it out. I got the impression that the first time he saw a vort he didn't think much of it. After he saw lots he got concerned.

Yes, when he looked at one or two of them he smilied. Then when he saw alot of them he thought as if soemthing was wrong.

Perhaps.
Or maybe that initial sneer was a sort of 'You think a bunch of Vortigaunts can stop me?' look.
And then his shocked, anrgy reaction was a sort of 'What the hell? I can't move! These bloody Vortigaunts are somehow keeping me from Gordon' look.
The G-Man is very expressive :P.

I don't think he had the briefcase because he would have looked a great deal less menacing when he straightened his tie and spat "We'll see about that!" :p

Or to save polys, you know valve always deleating polys here and there...

Acually would have been cool if he had dropped his brief case when he realized he was boned, a little before he straightens his tie.

He didn't have the briefcase because if he had thought to bring it, he would've opened the biggest can of whoopass on those vortigaunts like they've never seen before in the entire history of their race. He would've been smacking them away two-or-three at a time with that thing, pulled out his pistol and capped those furthest two (the ones rescuing Gordon) in the back of their heads. Then he would've straightened his tie and spat on them.

So for story purposes, he couldn't have had the briefcase if Gordon was to be freed by the vortigaunts. Valve realized this in advance so they removed the briefcase from his model.

Samon, exactly what I was thinking.

At anyrate, I'd still be interested to hear what tehe Gman had to say .. hell .. I'd be interested to know the Gman's actual name. (It bothers me that so many people literally think his name in the HL universe is GMAN)

The start of EP1 takes place right after HL2, then you go unconcious for a few hours.

On the briefcase:
1: It possibly represents the g-man's control and power (what is a businessman without a briefcase full of files, or in this case, files, pencils, a photo of himself and a gun)
2: He wouldn't be able to clench his fists menacingly otherwise
