This subject has probably been visted, revisited and visted more than you visit your grandmother, but instead of figuring out who the Gman is, shouldnt we try to preserve the mystery? I mean, we already know who Master chief is, wev'e pretty much figured out Doomguy, so as players of Half Life, why dont we keep the Gman's secret identity alive! And on the side, would finding out who he is really be worth it? Would'nt it spoil everything, and possibly even ruin the plot line of the series? (based on the post made by those guys on the filefront forums.)

((Sorry this should be moved elsewhere, to single player mythology.))

i think its ok here... its not mythology.. greek gods and budda is mythology... this is Half life my friend... besides, what would you know, your a scanner!? ... and i dont think finding out who G-man is would ruin it... I've been wondering for so long now, however I think Valve should wait till last minute to revile him, i just dont want my pc to be gay and lag the whole time he, or who ever it might be, is explaining it all... and i definatly dont want any hints or such in trailer videos that might give it away or help me to predict it... I can be pretty good at predicting some times.. i mean that movie "The Village" me and my dad predicted the out come of that movie from the beining with out any hints or anything... and i sure hope it aint something stuipd or cliche like: " Gordon... I AM YOUR FATHER! " that would suck.

Part of the joy of mystery is trying to unravel the truth.

I doubt we'll figure it out. Besides, it won't spoil it because we'll think "oh, it prolly won't be anyway".

We've analysed G-Man so much, now were analysing the fact of anaylsing him... just stop.

I dont know... just doesnt seem right to have a noob tell him what to do... just say'n the topics fine here.

He replied to his own post, it's not another person trying to tell him where to post :upstare:

we wouldn't know if we were correct even if we found out until the series ends(probably).

It will either be told at the end of Episode 3, or the end of whatever could be after that...

the gmans identity is one of the many reasons I play half life. I JUST WANT TO KNOW.

I'm more looking forward to the G-Man's character being revealed more.

Now, a very awsome plot twist would be a point where we are on a hair-thin line between discovering the true identity of the Gman and possibly never knowing, and then just as we are about to find out, something happens that prevents us from ever knowing who he is.

"Half-Life 2: Episode 8

The G-mans End"

D: Saw it on Gabes desk!

How about this? First you get see who/what G-Man is, just so you get the satisfaction but afterwards towards the end (?) that would be revealed to be a lie and it would all be one big cliffhanger to end them all.

Yes it is really worth knowing what is his role. So we don't have to constantly debate on what is truely and compare our past theories with the official version.

Yeah, the writers of HL would be insane to not eventually reveal who he is.

what mystery?
it's obvious gordon freeman = gman

Even if that was the case, I'm guessing that VALVe would be smart enough to change that, just since that's the bigggg theory.

Valve seems to be pretty good at pleasing their customers, so I think that they would be smart enough to eventually reveal who the G-man is. If they didn't, Half-life who be forever known as one of the most dissapointing games (regarding story), especially since it's so popular.

"1: We cannot let the system collapse.
2: Impossible to figure out (les-nok lor-ah va-va-va-va? (That is what I heard…))
3: I want you to give me an answer you won’t regret.
4: If I had one, do you think that I would detonate? (The nuke used in Op4, perhaps?)
5: Sound in background, bah. Will figure out eventually. (This sounds odd… but at first I thought it said, “I am glowing, just at the knees”… If you play it over and over again, it sounds like some freak-show song…)
6: You scientists can/earn applaud. –something-(Sounds like da-da...)"

Does G-Man really say this, and when?

I´ve got the spanish version of Half-life so maybe that's why I dont hear it.
Thanks

Gman Reveals his Half-Eaten Pie From Suitcase at End!

They better damn well cough up substantial info regarding G-Man by the end of these episodes. Two games and three episodes is a long enough wait to get some goods on the guy.

I trust Valve will appease this thirst.

We learned bucket-loads about the G-Man in HL2.

Bullshit. We learned squat.

We learned more from his brief appearance in Episode 1 than we learned during the entirety of the sequel.

We learned loads. Theres no point denying it. You just have to dig deep. What we learned:
He's not human.
He used HL1 to get a tool, and you ended up it because "you caught his attention".
He's hiring you out to whoever just for "money" or summat.
He's hired you out to the resistance.
At the end he takes you away from the resistance because he has received more "intersting offers".
BTW Absinthe what is your ava?

Dig deep? Most of what you've listed are shallow observations.

He's not human.

No duh. We arguably learned this from the first game.

He used HL1 to get a tool, and you ended up it because "you caught his attention".

Again, duh. Learned from the first game. And even then, it has not been made clear if your acquisition was based on happenstance or if it was planned.

He's hiring you out to whoever just for "money" or summat.

This is incredibly vague.

He's hired you out to the resistance.

Okay. This tells you what exactly about G-Man himself? This is just pointing out the obvious, but not saying much.

At the end he takes you away from the resistance because he has received more "intersting offers".

And at the same time, this summation is incredibly lacking in any actual substance.

What did we learn about him in HL1? That he's a shady, powerful, undoubtedly extra-terrestrial being with mercenarial attributes. What did we learn about him in HL2? Uhh... Same thing? Again, I argue that the most substantial revelation about the man since the first game has been that he can be challenged and impeded by the Vortigaunts. Anything prior was just perpetuating the established mystique.

BTW Absinthe what is your ava?

The cover for Aphex Twin's "Chosen Lords" vinyl set.

Gman is something more than extra terrestial. If he can stop all matter on any plane of existance, both physical and non physical, and he can travel interdimensionally like the combine, then theres that not so human and yet not so alien air about him. Additionally, you may notice that there is some relative difficulty in holding his human qualities, including his speech, and note that this is just a theory that he may have created a highly unstable human form. Also, I belive that the combine, Xen, the Black Mesa incedent, Dr. breen, the 7 hour war, the portal storms, the Gman himself, are all part of an even bigger war, a bigger plot that far outscales what our protagonist is currently undertaking.

How do we know that the G-Man is an extra-terrestrial? If you dont mind me asking.
