What exactly is this font that is found in counter-strike source\hl2\resources\HalfLife2.ttf ?

I find the font very interesting, but I have no clue what it is. What is this all about? Is this used for the HUD where when you push 1-7 it will show these? Or for when you pick up one of these weapons/ammo?
