The Hidden Beta Test Released

The Hidden released a series of media a few days ago. Just today, they have released their first public beta for public download. They have a mirror, located here in .rar format. If you do not have winRAR, click here to get it. [br]</br>They also would like to remind everyone that it is the first beta, therefore, pretty rough. Keep that in mind when playing!

Thought "The Hidden Beta" meant the VAC2 beta. :laugh: Or the Third Test...
 
Not a good idea to release a beta this early to the public. But, I will try it none-the-less.
 
K... tried it for a few minutes, seems kind of cool but IMO they released it too early. The most annoying part of it is that they have the weapons on the left-hand side for some stupid reason and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it (anyone know if theres a console command?).
 
I am in total agreement with diluted. I was only able to play for a few minutes because the server crashed, but it was released too early. It's very, VERY annoying how you have no idea of what the goal of the mod is. And you never see the "thing"(I have no idea what it is) that killed you.
 
rounds restarted randomly (or so it seemed), you can see the "hidden" ennemies a little bit, Its super buggy and it really is not a good idea to release it that soon.I would not recommand the download to anyone yet.
 
I played it for a couple of rounds ... the gameplay is very unique and I loved it... I managed to kill *the hidden* on my first round, so on my second round I was the hidden ... it was pretty cool, reminded me a lot of AvP (being the alien) stalking people then hacking them to bits :D

I think there should be an infra-red CCTV system that shows the body heat (so the hidden shows up) so someone can keep an eye on the monitors and inform the team where the hidden is via voicecom. It'd add more fun to the game, and stop the noobs crying out "OMG I CATN C TEH HIDDEN!!11WTF111one"
 
Probably the worst bug every...

When you spawn each round, there's a very large chance you spawn ontop of eachother making it unplayable.

Game play is good but i would certainly recommend not downloading this until this bug is sorted.

Well i just tried a different server and the bug didn't exist. Great game!
 
No idea what this is... screenshots? Info? Link to website? Does it use custom textures?
 
It plays like a beta, but I like it :] Maybe because I like sneaking up on people :P. I recommend a download.
 
I played it for 2h, its great but it needs a lot of work! Its creepy and the gameplay is really good(I love to be a hidden) but the bugs are very annoying.

When this mod is finished it will be kick ass.
 
downloading now. but what someone said about ONLY being able the weapon being in the left side. i looked on the mods web page. on the marine screenshots. the marines hold it on their right hand side. but not in first person, it's on the left? :s
 
Definately a great concept for a mod, quite a lot of fun! Snuck up on a couple of guys and pig-stuck them! Very atmospheric :D

Can't wait to see the finished product!

like gabe newell said, this is always the best thing you can do as a mod team to get feedback and suggestions as early as possible and keeping your learning curve on track.

Looks pretty good though.
 
A lot more servers would be great, each one is full all the time :(
 
Its only a taster, so it is rough. The weapons are on the left coz the CSS weapons by standard are on the left, Valve flipped them to right side for CSS, ask anyone who has messed round with the SDK, they will confirm this, we just thought other stuff was a tad more important. The spawn sharing bug is highly annoying, but it is the first thing we will sort out on the bug list. Try to look beyond these bugs for now (i know its hard) and have a laff...
 
Any beta is better than no beta, and as I've said before, this one is great fun :)

Thanks to you and the rest of the mod team for releasing it early, Boxy... its nice to see mods in their early stages. This mod is definately shaping up nice with shedloads of potential.

Would be nice to see some experimental features toyed with ... *cough* heatvision *cough*

This mod is going to be crazy on official release. I think they released it at the right time. Sure there weren't any weapon models or knife animations, but it was a lot of fun. I just played for an hour. man it's crazy, it reminded me of avp also, except its marines vs crossbreed of aliens and predators. You can pounce(alien) and you're invisable (predator). It was awesome watching people camp and then pouncing behind them to finish one off with the pig sticker thingy (second click=one hitter), then seeing the other one run away in fear having no clue where i was. It was also fun being the hunters. I'd be standing there, and then i'd see my teammate fly out in front of me with the beeping noise of the combine thingy when they die, and then i'd be all jump and shooting at walls because i didn't know where he was.
This mod could be incredible when they finish it. Ways to make it better would be, give the hunters smoke grenades or a fire extinguisher. Then when the hidden runs through it or something, you'd be able to see it because you'd see the smoke move with it, or it come out of the smoke and still hold the smoke or white color within it or something. The reason infared wouldn't work is because it would make it too easy. Also tripmines would be awesome.
 
All the servers are full, so I started my own, but after like 10 seconds, the status window pops up, and my weapon disappears. Not just the model- the actual weapon goes away. Does this happen to anyone else? If so, they should fix it right away.
 
What about a laser sight, when it crosses through the hidden it will go all shimmery (maybe?).

That way it still leaves it up to an individual to spot it (with a smoke grenade the whole hunting force could see it) and it could look cool! A smoke grenade would still be good though
 
Right, the game will only start when there are at least 2 players(makes sense) which is why u get the waiting for players. During these pause phases we have the mod remove the weapons so ppl wont kill each other in intermissions, thats why they disappear for you. Laser sights have been discussed, will be very hard to implement properly with a refracting laser on the hidden, and if we did do it, would probably lead to IRIS 'window wiping' rooms to find the hidden, not very good. Smoke grenades may be on the cards, we wil lloko into it. Trip mines were considered, and we mayput them in, but not for a while. Any other questions?
 
It's a shame all the servers available are constantly full, you must be doing something right :)

You should maybe look into getting a sponsor or something.
 
aah. Now that I think about it, that makes a lot of sense. Consider me converted.
 
The only problems I can find with this mod have already been stated . Would be betterl if the Marines had some more weapons and if the Hidden had some more melee attacks and I am sure these are already in the works.

I find it really fun to move with a group of marines trying to lure the target into the light or being part of an ambush group laying in wait for the Hidden to make a wrong move.
 
Some of you don't get the meaning of a pubic beta test.....
Of course there are a lo t of bugs, just report them to the team, that's why they released this early beta :rolleyes:

I found it very amusing and promising gameplay.
As they have mentioned at their website: don't create server with more then 6 players. I will run a dedicated server soon and report serverside probs to them.

Give them feedback, that's what this is all about gentlemen.

I do have one suggestion: could you guyz loose the crosshair ? It would be far more immerging if all weapons would have Iron Sights :stare:
 
this mod looks promising, i had fun playing it a couple of hours.
i had some major lags though, maybe you should look into it.
 
Sounds like a cool mod - I can't play it unfortunately. But really exciting to hear the first mods start coming through into beta. Well done!
 
Its probably laggy coz people are running listen servers as opposed to dedicated, we cant control that from our end to be fair...
 
Bugs aside, the gameplay is nothing I've ever played befor. After a few rounds the marines start to huddle and keep close (Antelopes and Lions anyone?), the moment u lose track of your squad you start to panic, you can't cover every angle and if you try you are going to miss the hidden. Only option is to find the group and hope the hidden hasnt noticed that you're on your own....

Pretty good game, tho almost all the servers are full. So i really haven't had a chance to play it much. I like the idea.
 
Even in it's buggy, almost Alpha state, it's definitely a lot of fun. Played it for 20 mins before getting some food, and in that short playtest I had more fun than I do in two hours of CSS.

The only "real" problem I encountered was me not being able to figure out how to kill the Marines quickly. I have no idea what the pig-stick is, or why the hidden's Pounce seems really useless as you're already pretty fast and invisible, and also because I can never use it properly :p

I honestly can't wait to play this in its final version, it's going to be a great mod :D
 
It bugs as hell, but it is a GREAT concept. I really enjoyed the rounds where I did not spawn on top of other players.

Fix some of the bugs and this mod is onto a winner.
 
It's funny when the hidden talks and he has this voice icon above him, he gives away his position like that :]
 
spawning on top of someone is better than insta-gib when they spawn in you
 
download a beta at your own risk.
To me, downloading a beta, is like being a beta Tester. if you dont think beta testing is fun, then you won't find playing a beta fun either.
