The Lost Coast = ATI Levels (email from Gabe)

The ATI levels... Do you guys think that an 8600 Ultra will be able to play them well? I mean, It IS a pretty high up graphics card.

EDIT: Holy crap! I'm a civilian! Didn't realize you guys changed it already...
It had better run it! It hasn't even been released yet. If the numerical classification sticks, we won't be seeing those cards for a couple of years at least. :D

(note for the slow: he said 8600...)

I think you'll find that the Lost Coast levels have absolutely bugger all to do with Half Life's storyline.

I'm sure this project is being designed to woo people to the Source engine, by showing what it's fully capable of. It'll be more like a playable tech demo than an additional Half Life 2 level, maybe just based on a normal day of life for a person who lives along the coast. I don't think it'll be a shooter, either and I'm certain it will be set long before the Combine arrived and trashed everything.

I think you'll find it's a set of maps, not a full-blown mod.

You wouldn't make a non-playable (i.e. walkthrough) tech demo and then release it to your fanbase when you're trying to woo prospective licencees.

I think we'll see the bloke from the screenie hop into a van and then drive along the coastline, making a few stops on the way. I reckon it'll be the coast levels but set before the Combine invaded, you won't be playing as Gordon - just some average Joe making a living by dropping groceries off.

Possibl;y.

Alex Garden of Homeworld fame has been known to respond and even play his own game online.

Team17, the team behind the WORMS games franchise, was always on their website forum while they were making the game.

They would answer any questions, change the game according to forum members' input, and sometimes even select forum members to be beta-testers. When they completed the game, they challenged people to play against them.

But I doubt that Valve would be able to do this with the enormous amount of fans that they have.
