The Original Companion Cube?

I just played Opposing force for the hell of it, and came to a level were you have a cube, and have to move it about and get it through the mission. It's the same cube all the way through, using it to hop over stuff and get into air ducts. Doesn't it seem suspiciously like Companion cube?

Is Companion Cube *Gasps* Just a recycled idea?

Pff, I'd say that one box in Office Complex in HL1 would be the first "companion cube".

No, it's nothing that interesting, I know, but the similarities are interesting. In Opposing Force, you had to use the little box, bringing it room to room, literally having it as a "companion cube", surviving on it, much like in Portal. You could not beat the mission without it in that particular part of the game.

thats just a plain old box though. the companion cube protected you and its could freakin talk!!!.....supposedly

Yeah well those boxes are all well and good but they don't hold a candle compared to my love for my Companion Cube
