just trying to harvest some opinions and ideas here but if you had the opportunity to design the perfect multiplayer game...what would it be? what would it entail?

would it be futuristic? lots of vehicles? realistic? heavily team based? objective based? deathmatch style? a remake? lots of guns? no guns? earth based?

im thinking about starting up a new game project but Im just looking around to see what type of game people these days WANT to play.
This idea is so fresh in my mind that I dont even know what Id like to make yet, so if you had the chance to influence the design of your perfect game...what would it play like?

Splinter Cell with 2 spies vs. 10 mercs and the mercs only have 2 lights to share among themselves and 1 radio, 1 light per 5 man squad and one squad has a radio, no special visions for mercs and the spies have the same equip as Sam Fisher so they can kill.

Futuristic deathmatch, fast fast fast, bunnyhop- and fast at that, tau-cannon style weapon, hitscan weapons that require you to zoom.

Basically HLDM, but tweaked and balenced (wallgauss removed etc)

The Matrix, only difference being that EVERYONE could be Neo!

I'd rather have a realistic, team-based shooter. But when I say realistic, I don't mean "you-get-shot-in-the-leg, now-you-stumble" kinda realistic. Objective based, yes. Could be to capture a certain item, or fix this, cap that. A veriety of guns.

I guess CSS only tweaked for all the better.

when you say objective based, do you mean when you get on the map your team has a single objective which if you complete you win? (so like CS bomb defuse)
or you get on the map and theres a series of objectives which when all completed, you win? (ie dystopia type gameplay with about 5 objs to be completed in order)

Quakeworld, but new!

- Fast Bunnyhopping but with HL: TFC style physics
- A sensible rocket launcher with none of that crazy laser guiding business

I really wish someone would make a game like that.
A warzone with super realistic effects. Big maps, lots of players, squads, vehicles.
BF2 but more realistic and a hell of lot more action.

A squad based battle game. Not squad based as in you all play as a member of a squad, but each player controls a squad. One tank counts as a squad though, and airstrikes are controlled by AI, not jetplanes flown by players. Then we can finally get a realistic war on with 100s of soldiers.

Teams would be roughly company sized, and one player would play the... Captain? or whoever it is that runs the company, but by giving orders from top down. If you've ever played close combat series you probably have an idea what I mean. Stuff like move here, covering fire there, smoke over here, call in artillary fire. And realistic tanks, not rocket launching machines that have more hp than a regular person and move slower.

Oh, and realistic respawning. Not you die you appear over here, but more like the commander assigns you a new squad to command over and you get to come in with the next wave of reinforcements. Only like 2 or 3 waves per game though, none of this ridiculous constant stream of people. Basic units I'd imagine are (# of soldiers): rifle infantry (7), assault infantry (7), mg team (3), sniper (1), AT team (4), assault engineers (5), scouts (5), tanks of varying armour and guns. Of course there are limited numbers of each type. So probably a lot of rifle infantry, few tanks. Some things would have to change on wether you want to make it WW2 or present day or future or somewhere inbetween.

A medieval fantasy. Where there would be mages, warlocks, necromancers, warriors, rogues, hunters. all chooseable by a class based system.

The melee part would be done sorta like Die By The Sword had. Realistic physics calculated for arrows, swords hitting each other etc.

The maps would have a few key positions. Let's say like a castle you would need to conquer and hold or some other point. But everything else would be generated during the map load, forests, rocks, foliage, even the time of the day. So you wouldn't know if it's going to be a battle in the night or in the dawn of the day. So that you basicly can't make the same tactics every time. The forest would be like in Oblivion.

Ragdolls would be used in combat too. Like when a player is hit the player would slide trough the ground, maybe lose some gear in it and all this would have ragdolls added. After the slide the player would rise up from the ground (althou he/she would be a little dazed for a short time).

I'm going to just explain the mages and warriors, someone else can think about the other classes.

As for the magic users there would be only one to three of them. Depending on the max player amount.

As for the magic casting the spells would be big and casting would look like the mages actually have to focus 100% to keep the spell under control (they can't move at all). If successfully disturbed the whole spell could backfire and kill the caster and everyone near him/her.

When casting, the power of the spell would push the mage backwards a little and maybe sink him to the ground like a few centimeters and maybe some depris rising from the ground.

The spells wouldn't be like shitty little fireballs like you see in current games. When you shoot a fireball expect there to be a huge explosion lot's of depris flying everywhere and the ball it self would be colossal and leave a huge fires behind it and a nice crater.

But as a drawback the casters wouldn't be able to cast many of these colossal spells and they would be very vulnerable. Casting one would also exhaust the mage quickly.

As for the Warriors. They would be extremely powerfull, unrealisticly powerful. Let's say a silly rogue forgot to hide in the shadows. Warrior sees him and dashes towards him, bashes him/her with a warhammer. By the effect of this the hit would send the rogue flying like 30 meters.

So thats basicly the basic layout I would like to see. Not going to write everything I have in mind for this since I'm not going to write a friggin book. :D

The Perfect Multiplayer Game™

1 part RTCW Enemy Territory (ingredients: classes (real classes not just guys with different guns), rpg elements, objectives)
1 part Battlefield 2 (ingredients: squad play, vehicles, communication system)
1 part huge persistent battlefield
mix in any other war war besides ww2

throw ingredients into Source Engine, bake for a year, pour ready game into steam, collect accolades

- serves 1 million +
- best served hot

something like BF2 except the people realistically blend in with the enviornment. Because currently i can see a prone sniper 400 meters away unzoomed.

Then make the world stupid big, and have it always exist, and 'squads' can go and take over towns and hold them. And each town or city will have something different like an armory or a vehicle plant or something like that...

whenever you log in you'll be dropped in wherever the majority of your squad is at.

wallgauss was the SHIT! No wallgauss = the suck.:farmer:

BF2 in the style of Planetside.

Hell I'd like it.

Cyberpunk.
Teambased helps, but you can go lone, and people who play can play teambased.
Implants for different parts of the body. Not just Upper Body, Lower Body, but I mean Legs, Eyes, Body, Arms, Hands, Feet, Chest, Brain etc.
You can hack... hacking has no limits, you can displace the world, place things in the world. Make unsuspected people go BOOM!, just mess around with anything in the world. Hacking isn't like Dystopia too, its very realistic, and hard. Which will stop Newbies from hacking. The multiplayer game contains a good community, who are nice, and well balanced.
Have Acrobatics, basically you can choose your style. The more money you get the more implants, weapons etc. you can get.
Its an MMORPG, lag free, and rather good graphics.
It has vehicles, lots of 'em. They can be hacked and driven remotely too.
There are many different objectives, it is a lot like a real world, people patrolling hallways as you travel through the vents with Stealth Camo on.
The battling can be pretty quiet at times, but then you can have bullets flying everywhere.
Need to have Dynamic Sound... or something like that (Don't have sound playing in the background of guns firing, I want it so if someone fires, you hear a gun shot, if no one fires, you don't, like DOD Source.)
No limit for Acrobatics.
Everything is played in VR, basically, you sit down a device scans your brain allowing you to play.
There are different corporations, companies etc.
There is peace every now and then.
Players affect the game (Like EVE Online), event teams are running 24/7, and active. They also plan out events good, and give lil' breaks for people.
Setting is in several different cities.
You can also invent stuff, and you can invent anything, you aren't limited with pre-defined stuff. You can create anything you want.
Technology advances too as the game advances and people invent more things.
Think Ghost in the Shell.
EDIT: Advanced Huds to, well, if you get the implants for them. Ones that give a crap load of information on the spot, but don't overwhelm the HUD.
The HUD is responsive to things that happen 'round you too, if you got the right implants that is.
