How exactly were the Portal Storms created? Did killing Nihilanth cause the portal he was keeping open to become unstable and the side effect was portals opening up worldwide? Or did the resonance cascade cause the portal storms? But I thought by launching the Lamda(?) Satellite, we managed to stop it and the only portals open were being kept open by Nihilanth?

And the second part to this question, how did the Combine detect earth and invade it?

I'm so confused :|

Okay,
I think the Satellite only slowed the Portal Storms, they Still continue, so they didn't stop, obviously. And you see those Power Surges from Nihilanth at the end? Those are probably the Portal Storms starting to happen. And No-one knows how The Universal Union detected Earth.

My take:

The satellite closed the portal on earth's side, and Gordon thought killing Nihilanth would close it on the other side. He was wrong, it appears, since the storms get worse than ever.

I think the Gman was the one who wanted Nihilanth dead.

Feel free to correct me in a Calm and collective manner.

My take:
The satillite stoped the resonance cascade (mini-portal storms)
The Nihilanth was then invading with his portals
Gordon kills Nihily
The big portal storms start because of his death

Why do you guys say that site is so horrible? Marc Laidlaw says it's accurate for the most part, and Valve even featured it in the news. Who cares if it's "mostly speculation"? Isn't everything Half-Life players argue about considered speculation?

may be Gman is not even a living entity, or else how does he manages to reach places even before freeman does? that aint fair.......

Because alot of people take it as fact and it is rather annoying.

Then most of the series is a complete mystery. :D

Most of what we 'know' about the HL story is speculation.

I don't take any HL Facts as facts untill I see PROOF!

I agree it is so hard to realise what is and whats not in the half life universe because at this point nothing is fully explained. There are several flaws in that site and as riomhaire says people take it as fact when it is in fact far from it, as Samon said it is specualtaion. Very advanced and clever form of speculation but still speculation. Though that site did tell me a little bit about HL that I didn't know but for the most part, at some time or other I had deduced most of the theories myself at one time or another.

I think the satellite stopped the initial resonance cascade but Nihilanth's death caused the portal storms and the Combine used the satellite and the ensuing portal storms to get to earth.

How did the Combine get in contact with the BMRF then so they could have used that satellite? Unless the CoX Theory is correct (which it's not by a long shot), then the Combine have no way to influence the situation on Earth until the 7 Hours War.

And let's be honest, do you really think big bad mofos like the Universial Union need a satellite in order to teleport into other dimensions?

I'm guessing the G-man is a double agent who sold information to the combine? I find it wierd how they were just able to teleport citadels into the major cities. Its almost like they had recon.

After the resonance cascade stopped, the Nihilanth was controlling all the portals between Earth and the border world himself. His death released ALL of that contained energy, and it tore across Xen and Earth in such force and quantity that the Combine spotted it from their universe. From there they just locked onto the energy signature and pushed through with their own teleport.

The g-man could have been working for them in HL1, don't bash it, it's plausable.

It actualy makes sense TBH. It ended up with Nihily dieing (who was presumably the one holding the Combine back) and indirectly let the Combine take Earth.

Why is it everyone kept saying that the Combine used the Black Mesa satellite to get to Earth? I thought it sounded stupid although if it came of this website I can understand why as half of it is speculation that has been disproved.

If the G-man was working for the Combine when the Nihilanth died, the G-man's end quote "Xen is ours, for the time being" would then refer to the Combine. And, as we know, to this day the Combine have not set foot on Xen.

In fact, come to think of it, it would seem Xen's still under the G-man's control.

Lets agree that no one short of valve knows anything about Half Life.......:) And I bet even they dont know everything.....My prediction is that in Ep 2 Gordon is going to find himself on an island with monsters and crazy circumstances......he'll find a group of people who arrived via a plane crash, all of which are in a hatch of some sort and for some reason push a button every 108 minutes.......

ya thats right....gordon appears on Lost.

Heh, it's the first time I've heard of this. Anyway, I believe it has already been confirmed that the Combine transported their Citadels onto Earth as a means of entrance for themselves.
