When the portal is destroyed, do you think anything happens on the other side? The Earth end explodes, but does it explode on the Combine end?

If it does, then it stands to reason the G-Man knew it would, and that was part of the reason why he manoeuvered you into doing it.

I think he means, did the area in the other universe, where breen is trying to reach explode.

Who knows, i doubt it, i mean, if it did it would be one hell of a bang, considering the relay on the other side is several huge spires...

there was and explodion probabyle..but not that strong i think..

Agree. At least Gordon and Alyx were not killed (even they stood so close to it) :)

This thread makes me think.
No, when your portal exploded Kliener's lab didn't explode.
Which makes me think, you slow teleported when your's explodes so maybe Breen will just slow teleport.
Which makes me think, maybe you didn't slow teleport because the teleporter explosed, maybe G-man slow teleported you out.
Which makes me think, why?
Which makes me think, I think too much.

Quite possibly. If it did, like Samon said, it would be pretty enormous.

No, when your portal exploded Kliener's lab didn't explode.

But it exploded just after you teleported (or at the very least at the exact moment that you did). The Combine teleported blew up as it was still charging up and mage a huge (and very weird) detonation. As for Breen slow-teleporting just like you did...well, it seems unlikely, but it would certainly be one way to take the story forward and could end up in something quite interesting...

Its possible, actually, because in the final sequence, when you land the final blow to the portal and Breen shouts "NO!", theres a white flash exactly like the flash when the Gunships port in, and Breens voice goes very echoey

Is it possible he was ported out in the last minute?

well, its possible that he was teleported to the combine world. though we saw his protective layer thingy fell down into the abyss and exploded. well, we can only know the answer once HL3 ships.

No we didn't :D. All we saw is his bubble slowly drift down to the bottom of the reactor, where it was in the first place. It never exploded.

I see... but the reactor the bubble was on exploded. I think there's no way for him to have travelled to teh combine world... unless his bubble is accelerated by the explosion giving him enough thrust to go to the portal.

What are those spires for? I noticed they appear when the portal opens. Are they some kind of "power generators" for the portal?

I would assumse so yes, we know the combine have alot of trouble teleporting, and it seems apparant that they have huge relays to allow them to actual power what teleporters they do have.

I imagine those spires are connected to Breens reactor, which allows the spires, or power generators to connect with earth.

Well, not really. It doesn't look as if the reactor actualyl explodes. It depends on how you look at it, really.

The beam that power's his bubble is clearly the reactor, and admittedly that does seem to just shut off, leaving Breen's bubble to descend rather rapidly, so he probably would have just crashed at the bottom, where he started. Poor Breen, took so long gettign up.

I don't think its meant to give him thrust, its just meant to get him up there, Combine portal's are wierd things. I would assume the bubble would go with him, so he survivded in the combine world.

If it was to give him thurst, and the portal exploded, Breen might have ended up with the star's afterall, but not, exactly where he was hoping to end up... :smoking:

The spires on are Earth's side too if anyone noticed.

Yes, around the citadel, and, when the portal blows, one of them, the one in front actually, collapse's toward you.

Never actually noticed the spires in the Citadel. I'll have to replay the final section... NOW. :)

I'm more lead to belive that the big explosion was'nt from the teleporter, but rather the dark fusion reactor wich was detonated by the teleporter destruction and somehow vented all out of the teleport.

Good thing the time stopped or G-man tooked you out there... noone can survive being crushed by that thing.

Good thing indeed, Alyx, however, is in the direct path of it :O

Not any more!

"Time, Miss Vance? Is it really that time again? It seems as if you've only just..." :)

lol it seems unlikely that both you and alyx are being watched by g-man - or she would have said something most likely.

anyways, regardless of wether breen made it through or not, the area he was being teleported to meant he required a host body - whateva that means. I doubt we will see him again as himself, but possibly again in another form.

also, that brings me to another point - if alyx survives somehow, then she will know that you just dissapeared and will want to know what the hell is going on.

also, when u leave mossman and vance, they have no intention of going anywhere. they sit down and start making out. well, they just sit down. if u stay with them for a little bit they say "ill never leave you again."

geez vance is such a forgiving guy, he seems to have completely forgotten she was working for the guys he was working against. arrghh!
anyways, i went off topic!

Certainly, the portal blowing up in the Combine world would be a tempting objective for the G-Man...

Indeed it would, but i believe his intention was to cut the combines connection with earth via destroying the portal/reactor, which, as Mossman and Alyx states is used to power thier tunneling entanglement device.

Without it, they are usless.
