For those that crash/cannot run the damn thing.

1. Right click episode 1 and click properties.
2. Click set launch options
3. type without the quotes "-dxlevel 70"

Some people have had success with 80 and 81. I however crashed the same ammount in both of them. Going way back to DX 7 will let you finish the damn game.

Actually I found temporary fix for Episode One too, I felt very stupid for not trying it before.
All I did was go into the process list after you hit ctrl+alt+delete and I set hl2.exe's priority to high. I know it sounds silly, but I had all the problems people have mentioned here and now it's crash free.

Nah, I do that all of the time anyway and I still get crashes.

works perfect though i do have the odd stuttering problems now and than

although when i get to the core its totally diferent to the way it should look

and i have no flashlight which could prove tricky when alyx asks me to show her the zombies later =S

You using the legit version of the game death? :x

course bought it yesterday and got the recipt to prove it
:laugh:

and the core and the flashlight both worked correctly before i put this in

DX7 = Core = Ugly
DX7 = Flashlight = no?
GOD i wana try putting on DX5 and turning all settings to low and off!

Sorry, forgot about the core thing in DX7, not sure on the flashlight though.

i dont know if i should put it back to 80

but that would possibly mean that it would stutter and i woulrd have to reset my computer every 10 minutes
