Thinking of start playing WoW

New patch can gear you up by a few pieces of level 226 gear... Not too much of a boost but if you're running GDKP Naxx each day, you can get great gear without even being in a guild...

I'm at the top range of the guild hierarchy and I'm a little pissed off that they've given absolute newbies a shortcut to almost my gear level.

Its totaly not a bad thing tho, there is more to life then eve online :)

We could all get together in Dodixi and spam lvl4 missions for 6 hours tho :)

I finished the day at lvl 75.

rested gives you bonus xp whenever you do gain xp
 
Rested XP also has a cap of two full levels or something. It doesn't count towards Quest Turnins though, only kills, so you can usually milk it to getting double experience per kill for two and a half to four levels, depending on where you are and what you're doing.

I swear, half of the people who complain about not being able to see content or get gear are the same scrubs who stand in bright glowing circles on the floor and raid Naxx25 in their heirloom equipment. It took me quite some time to get my full Conqueror's set and I still have a few pieces of trash gear. Now, after a few days of farming Heroics, I'm seeing people who went absolutely nowhere pre-3.2 walking around with high level epics. It's kind of aggravating.
 
Badges from instances are basically separated into tiers. While all the bosses drop gear loot, they also drop badges that can be hoarded up and used as currency to buy the same/similar level gear from vendors. The idea is that even if you don't get the gear you need in the run, at least you'll be able to buy something later. You had to raid instances in that associated tier to get their respective badges, so it wasn't like you could farm entry-level raid content to get the most recent equipment. Entry-level dungeons dropped Heroism, more difficult ones dropped Valor, and WoW's previous patch introduced a new instance that offered Conquest.

Now the Conquest badges that dropped in 25-man Ulduar (previously the most difficult instance in the game) are given by every boss everywhere. You can run regular dungeons all day and get far more badges than you would in a single run of Ulduar. It's pretty ****ed up.

The only upside to this is that, these same people won't be doing the new 25 man any time soon, nor will they even come close to doing the heroic version of the new raid.


I can kind of understand why blizzard did it though. They basically want anyone who joins WoW now, to atleast be able to get themselves ready for Icecrown Citadel when that finally comes around. I don't blame them really, because Nax is boring as **** and no one wants to do it anymore. Ever.

Besides, aside from the two set pieces you can buy from the conquest vendor, most of the 25 man ulduar loot is still better then what you can get through emblems.
 
Wow, that is indeed pretty easy. Aren't heroics getting redundant this way? Maybe you'd still want to do them for the challenge, but if they offer the same reward badge-wise, why bother?
 
Well the incentive to go to heroics is really only there for players who just got to 80 who need to gear up. The difference being that now they'll be able to skip the first 3 raids (Naxxaramas, Eye Of Eternity, Obsidian Sanctum; All roughly on the same tier gear wise), and go straight to raids like Ulduar, and the new Trial of The Crusader.
 
I played for 4 months before I realized what a waste of money and time it was. It was actually tangible. I was in Azshara or where-ever, killing magical deer, and then it just hit me how pointless it all was. My main is still there...level 52....forever standing as a ghostly visage in that isolated little arse end of nowhere.
 
Eurogamer is doing a big multi article piece on World of Warcraft. Part 1 is a quite interesting read (although the writer is very clearly a big fan).

I think most people who quit have a similar realisation. Mine didn't come until lv 70 endgame. Countless hours had been lost to raids and it struck me that I was alone in my flat and raiding on a friday night. **** that shit :rolling:

Not only that, but if you don't want to be alone in your flat on a Friday night (or every night for that matter) then there's not much substance to the endgame, I felt.

I got to 70 and the only thing there was for me to do with my 2 or so hours of free-time per day were the daily quests. They were fun at first, but got repetitive very quickly. Raiding was completely out of the question because I wasn't about to devote my nights, especially weekend nights, to raiding a dungeon. That's the only way, I felt, that you could advance yourself in the game without having to deal with the frustration of Battlegrounds.

Speaking of Battlegrounds, that takes tons of time too if you decide to go that route.

The time you have to devote to WoW increases exponentially as you advance in the levels, I believe.

It's a pretty interesting read. Theres a thread on a members only section of SomethingAwful about WoW (otherwise I'd link it), about the "Strange Facts of Wow". It's mostly a look back on vanilla how far WoW has come along since then. Its literally an entirely different game.
 
Just like almost all RPG's, once you can't level up any more, the game instantly looses all appeal. Really? Is that the only hook the game had, was leveling up?

Sure I can go find loot, but for what? I'm not going to need stronger armor because I won't be leveling up anymore. In fact, I can strip down naked and dance. That's fun for about 5 seconds (maybe longer if I use a female character), and then uninstall the game.
 
Point of an MMO is to advance further than everyone around you.

In WoW, you do that by doing raids, obtaining better gear, better pvp rankings, etc.
 
Except that kind of race means those participating spend (waste?) more and more time on the game. It's rather saddening.
 
I dont know that still really only applies to vanilla. Now a days you can make pretty good progress in a raid with 2 or 3 hours (what anyone spends playing any game really) and call it day and come back later. Hell blizzard has made it even easier to get shit done, by allowing you to extend the lockout on your raid meaning you can spend a whole two weeks getting a raid down if you're guild members can only spend a small amount of time raiding on any given day.
 
At level cap i spend time leveling wep skills, proffs, getting rep etc as well as pvp.
 
It's a hard balance to strike, that's for sure. Gear resets are necessary in MMORPGs, and I say this form the perspective of someone who has raided "hardcore". The lesson here is that video game success is not, and never will be, tangible. Getting angry about it is silly and futile.

If you want to feel good about acquisitions become gainfully employed or start the next Facebook. It is my belief that Blizzard is acting entirely within reason and the notion that WoW was somehow catered towards hardcore gamers is patently false. If anything they're providing more interesting challenges to the hardcore and less frustrations to those who play 'casually'. In reality, though, I don't have to say anything--nobody comes close to WoW's numbers to this day, it's beyond the point of envy for rival developers, which is a good thing for the industry. Perhaps we can move forward now?

The only MMO I can see myself paying up for these days is maybe Planetside 2 with all the goodness of Planetside with the same numbers as before and with better graphics.

Welp, I really don't see how Aion/OldRepublic or anything for that matter is going to compete with this.

Usual expansion fare of new races, new areas and the like but get this:

The entire level 1-60 experience is being recreated to the quality of quests you'd see in Northrend. Everything is being redone. This is pretty ****ing massive. I can't wait :D:D:D:D
 
The expansion sounds very good, but I can't shake the feeling it's a smaller expansion than WotLK. No new talents, only 5 levels more, no new main profession, no new class. Not that this necessarily means they're being lazy, perhaps they're focusing more on other things rather than the usual old. Or perhaps they wanna release expansions at a higher pace.

I hope 1-60 will be more pleasant than it is now, I'm *really* tired of leveling through it and I refuse to start a character from scratch even though I kind of want play some classes.

To me, having played WoW from release for 3 years, it just seems like a mishmash of ideas now, with Blizzard holding your hand as you level up far more quickly and easily than originally. It was great back when it was fresh, with all the new experiences and adventuring, before all the strategies and locations for everything became public knowledge. I was in the first 50 to hit level 60 on my server (Shattered Hand), and my guild leader later became the first person to wield Sulfuras. WoW's community was always pretty crappy though, as the forums were always filled with immature jerks who would constantly complain about the smallest changes. It's been about 2 years since I quit for good, and I still have no urge to return. I'm going to be giving Aion a go though, at least until D3. I still am very curious about Blizzard's unannounced MMO though.

I couldn't help but laugh. It'll still be the same thing, WoW will still be WoW. It doesn't even look like they're adding much, just remaking old content.

After watching the the actual panel at Blizzcon that is fortunately not the case. They're pretty much reworking how areas flow into one another quest wise and basically recreating the old world which at this point is what it needed because leveling 1 to 60 has been a gigantic pain in the ass ever since the first expansion due to the huge difference in terms of quality with quests and all that.

They're basically putting the 1 to 60 experience on par with the leveling in Northrend which means it'll be really ****ing good.

Yeah they pretty much said they want to make leveling actually mean something now instead of just "welp im level 90 now time to start raiding" which was the reason for only pushing the cap up 5 levels.
 
Why the **** are Alliance getting Worgen? The only appeal to Horde Goblins for me would be the ability to blow myself (and everybody else) to Hell and back. But since such a class does not exist, this is only half the potential of awesomeness.

Also, splitting the Barrens? No. Absolutely ****ing not. You will leave that god damn zone alone. Keeping my fingers crossed for the long-awaited Troll capital city though.
 
Well everything is getting ****ed up. On the bright side south shore is completely ****ing gone :D

Also the whole worgen thing was basically to give Alliance a Beast-like race but it would've been a hell of a twist lore wise if Glenn Graymane said "**** the alliance" and actually joined the horde since hes a crazy bastard.

Also goblins get a god damn metal mobile as a mount. A ****ING SHRINER CAR. Plus they do have a racial called Rocket Belt, and it wouldn't be goblin engineering if it didn't have a chance to fail.

Like, half of what I'm hearing is cool as Hell. I'm all for a revamp of Azeroth. Plus, there's Deathwing! Sure, he's probably just going to be a raid boss making angry yells threatening the wrath of doom or some shit, doing nothing of interest outside of dropping shiny crap.

But hey. At least he's there.

Still, Worgen seem to have come from out of nowhere, much like the Draenei. And despite that, they come across as the way cooler race than Goblins, who basically function as Gnome equivalents. Just like Horde got shafted with effin' Blood Elves. And Tauren Paladins just depress the shit out of me.

I know I'm going to buy it, because I'm a whore. But I'm getting feelings of BC all over again.
 
Well the whole "gilneas has been infested by worgen" rumor has been flying around for a long time now so the IDEA has been there for a while, so its not COMPLETELY out of the blue. Also they seem to be setting up Deathwing has the big bad for cataclysm so im sure the fight will be pretty cool.

The panel reveals alot more. ****ing ragnaros is back. That'll bring back some vanilla memories.


Edit: They haven't shown ALOT of it, but if what im seeing from the panels online right now is right they're most likely updating models for ALL races. Holy shit thank god.
