What if this whole law suit thing turns out bad for valve and they cant distribute hl2 through steam?
i got one of the vouchers and i dont plan on buying hl2 in the store.
will the voucher be void and ill be forced to buy it?
If it does go bad there and the above happens i have a feeling there will be alot of unhappy people.

Then VUG will have to deal with a VERY UNHAPPY ATi.

There will be an arrangement that will be worked out b/w VUG and ATi in the event that Steam distribution is curtailed.

i never said anything about steam going away

If you notice, you also have the option of receiving a boxed copy of HL2 in the mail.

Taking six weeks minus shipping costs. You'd be faster off by developing HL2 yourself from scratch :P

and then having half of it stolen from you and then delaying it because you have to sue vivendi

i dont relly trust steam with my products so i buy em at the store than hav them on steam, i think its jus easier that way cuz u dont hav all the hassle.

There is no hassle with steam. All you do is put in your CC info and the game's unlocked.

It's just as safe using steam to buy games as any other site like EB, Gamestop, etc. I bought CZ off steam and everything was fine

Yeah Steam is safe to buy from. I have the ATI voucher and I will be very pissed if I can't get HL2...

No Steam hassle so far. It's worked like a dream. If my computer crashes, I will have to (a) redownload it or (b) pull the .gcf's off a back-up. Whipdeedoo. If Vivendi shuts the whole thing down (NOT!), then I'll drag my butt to some sorry store. I'm mature enough that if I don't get the game the very millisecond its released (or even week), I'll do ok.

Can't you use the voucher at a store?

Sorry for the OT but, Has it been confirmed that you can preload hl2 and use your key from the retail cd version to activate it ?

I'm sure steam is too heavily invested (VALVe, ATi, Consumers) for it to be prohibited.

Yep.

And if I can't get it through Steam... I'll be making the trek to Best Buy... arrrr...

I'm going to use steam, I live like five seconds from gamestop.

That's only if the person has bought an ATI Radeon video card. If they simply bought the coupon off someone on ebay then I believe it's near impossible to get the boxed copy in the mail as they ask for proof of purchase of the video card the coupon came with.

On a side note, I called the ATI phone number regarding HL2 and they've got all my stuff and I'm just waiting for the slackers at VUG to release the damn thing. Besides, while I'm waiting for my copy of HL2 to be shipped to me (6 weeks??? where's it coming from? Siberia on the back of a dog sled??) I guess I'll be able to play the preloaded version on my machine (since it did accept my cdkey)...
