The release of a new "The Collector's Cache" treasure into Dota 2 yesterday evening has caused an inevitable spike in the prize pool for The International 2015, so let's explain. The new treasure is only available to Compendium owners, giving them access to 11 new mythical-quality item sets, Compendium levels, and the "Faceless Rex" courier. As with the Compendium, 25% of the revenue from all sales is being distributed straight back to The International 2015 prize pool, allowing it to quickly surpass the $11,000,000 mark shortly after the treasure's release.

While the total is still growing steadily, this new milestone means the TI5 will feature the largest prize pool ever attached to an eSporting event. Last year's The International 2014 also broke records, with it being hailed as the first eSporting event to be broadcast live on ESPN (sorry, Heroes of the Storm) while also boasting an enormous prize pool of 10,930,698. With two months left to go, it's far from clear how high the prize pool for The International 2015 can or will reach, but, for now, we're just glad to have secured the intriguing "Desert Terrain" custom map skin, as shown below.

If you're looking to learn more about The International 2015 or contribute to the ever-growing prize pool, make sure you head on over to the announcement pages for the Compendium or "The Collector's Cache" treasure.

I'll probably cave and buy a compendium and 11 of those treasures, perhaps the 15 million dollar prize pool isn't that far-fetched after all.
