Anyone catch the pic in the papers yesterday of Depp as Willy Wonka then?

Opinions on what you think the new film will be like.

Why remake that film? Honestly, its just like when they remade the Manchurian cantidate or planet of the apes.

I would rather see them remake a show that sucked, because there is no way they are gunna make a better version of the classics they keep remaking.

Not so much a remake of the film as a film version closer to the book.

Depp looks so incredibly gay though (its the hair, very err yeah lol) and dark at the same time, and being Burton its bound to be a good movie.. Though it'll be a challenge to beat Wilder's version of Wonka.

this could be good..i think a story like this fits Burton like a glove..and Depp is such a good actor that he can pull anything off...

That costume is really weird, I do like the hat though. I don't think Depp's expression really adds to the picture.
I think the film has every chance of being good and I'm definately going to see it, even if I end up going only to see one of childhood heroes (Willy Wonka) being portrayed in a way I don't like.
I am sure it will at least be a good film anyway, even if people don't think it lives up to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
My opinion of Tim Burton has increased since I read the Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories as well and it was quite high before.

This movie should be suitably kickass.

I just hope they don't go overboard on the CGI like we all know they will. :p

I dunno, Burton has a habit of hiding the CG well, and just using it where its really needed. The film is gonna be a lot of fun, just the right side of creepy.

Johnny Depp fits the description well I think

He had a black top hat on his head.
He wore a tail coat made of a beautiful plum-coloured velvet.
His trousers were a bottled green.
His gloves were pearly grey.
And in one hand he carried a fine gold-topped walking cane.
Covering his chin, there was a small, neat, pointed black beard.

But he is missing the goatee

http://img29.exs.cx/img29/8466/wonka2.jpg is the one i saw in the paper, was B&W though.

Does have that rather camp look to the character, but im sure it'll be the opposite in the actual film.

Initially I thought a remake would be very crappy - but there's probably no actor in the world more suited to the role than Mr Depp :)

Add Tim Burton and it's a must see :)

Be interesting to see how the kids "get it", was tame in the musical, but IIRC pretty nasty (or fun heh) in the book.. Admittedly I haven't read that in a loooong time.

Sounds interesting, but damn, Johnny Depp doesn't look to be making a great Willy Wonka so far (talking looks here).

Adding the goatee from that description would help, because his hair's a bit womanly. :p
