The Barney in blue shift is the one your see banging on the door at the beginning of the tram ride. However, all the Barneys are named Barney. The HL2 barney is a sort of combination of all the Barneys from HL1. Or at least, that's what I've heard.

Makes sense really, it would be silly to choose a particular one seeing as none of them do anything memorable.

I think to avoid confusion we should agree on terms to use for each barney. Eg:
Barney (Half-Life 2)
barneys (Half-Life 1)
Calhoun (Blue Shift)

EXCEPT the one who tells you to get to the surface in Power Up, and the one that gets clawed into the vent in the beginning of Blast Pit (Outside that blast door)... Ohh, and the one in Blast Pit who (If you are so lucky) gets chopped to bits.
