Trading downloaded HL2 for the Orange Box

I previously purchased Half-Life 2 through the Steam download site. If I purchase the Orange Box, according to wikipedia, I can then receive gift subscriptions for the duplicate titles in the box that I can then add to a Steam friends list.

How much are the gift subscriptions and how do I find people to add to my friends list?

if you previously own HL2 and episode one prior to your orange box purchase they will allow you to give away the copies of hl2 and episode 1 that come with the orange box to someone else who has steam...

So, if I buy the box, how would I then go about getting the gift subscriptions.

They are automatically assigned to your account and show up beside the games (HL2 and ep.1) as 'gift'.
You then click on them and enter and email address and this sends an invite to the person offering them the gifted game.
