Is it possible to transfer CS:S and HL2 (when its out) to another computer that doesn't have an internet connection? I tried searching the steam forums/help and got answers like transfer the gcf files and copy the entire steam directory and crap like that. And then it says that steam might have to make updates and has to connect to the internet to verify your account before you can play. So can someone give me the exact steps to get CS:S working on another computer w/o internet access? Should I copy all the gcf files and then copy the steam directory to the internetless computer's steam directory? I mean this is confusing. I tried calling ValvE and they don't do phone support.

I've thought about this a bit but i think it is only possible to play HL2, even just SP, on a computer without an internet connection for at least the first time it is run. After your account is verified and stuff i think it will just run in offline mode and let you play from then on. Maybe we will have to wait and see for sure...

If the computer has no internet connection then how are you going to play CS:S ?????

Welcome to the forums. I don't think you will be able to play cs:s without internet...

The game must be activated in your current os via the internet, even to play single player. Otherwise it wouldn't even need to be cracked to be pirated.

So, no. You cannot just transfer it to another computer. That other computer has to be online at least long enough to login once.

Okay, so I just paid 60 for a game I can't use. Some people have crappy computers with internet and a monster at home to play teh goods. Its not a matter of pirating. I am talking about a valid concern. Having the right, freedom and ability to transfer something I bought to any computer I want to play it on. If I buy hl2 at the store, can I get updates on a non-internet computer or do I have to be online for that too? I'm steamed.

Try this:
Log in to steam on the computer with the internet connection. Copy the whole Steam folder to the computer without internet access, by multiple CD/DVD's ect. Then you should be able to log in in offline mode. Worked before for CS1.6 when I was lanning and couldnt get access to the internet on my pc.

Even if you buy HL2 at the store, if you want updates, like any game, you need to have the internet chief.
How did you get CS:S if you dont have the internet? And if you do have the internet, but it is crappy, i'm sure it is still sufficient just to verify the game online over steam once, then to play HL2 offline.

I think I have the internet since I am talking to you on the internet. :imu: I want to be able to take files and updates from an internet computer to a non internet computer. I'll just try to copy all my steam folder to another computer and see what happens. Thanks for the help guys.
