I don't know if anyones posted about this or anything like that but I noticed this on the old E3 video when it came out (the one on the camera). And I've watched it on the newer High-Res videos, which makes it even more clear. I've e-mailed Gabe about it but no reply. :(

In trap town after you block the door the combine soldier tries to open it but he can't so he goes to the window. You'd think he'd either spray the whole room with bullets or look for Gordon through the window and shoot at him. But rather he goes to the window and just shoots straight. So whoever was playing the demo ran towards the washer (cant remember what was there) and hid behind it so it looked like the combine was shooting at him. I hope they fix that before the release.

I may be seeing things. If you disagree or if I viewed it wrong just tell me.

Been discussed many times: you might want to seach for older threads and see what people had to say.

The best idea was that the soldier is shooting there to prevent Gordon from escaping, so that reinforcements can knock the door in :)

my personal theory is that it's a general AI action, that when there are enough of them, and the room type and size permit, one will fire through a window as cover fire while the other busts through

Oh, I get it, since the soldier was firing at the wall, Gordon couldn't escape un-harmed.

However if you take a look in the Bink video, you will notice that the room DOESN'T just have one exit. you see there is another room that gordon never really faces, with a door in it.

So put that in your proverbial pipes and smoke it.

well keep in mind the level is most likely built entirely for the purpose of the e3 demo. its quite common with FPS games to do that. Also, this Worldcraft shot shows the bugbait prison level, also from the E3 demo, and notice the filename for the .vmf has a "e3_" prefix. So most likely Traptown is, at least in its exact form that we saw, not in the final HL2 build.

It was a scripted sequence in my eyes in that scene. When I play that i'll see for myself.

Episode 3 perhaps?

Firing at the washing machine.

I don't think he knew where Gordon was and was just firing into the room in a random way.

Or, perhaps, his mother died in a freak washing machine accident and couldn't contain himself once he saw the washing machine.

Evil washing machine shoot it now.

It has been stated before that both the AI and damage done by the enemy was turned down for the e3 vids to allow the player to move around and demonstrate features etc without getting killed instantly.

Electronic Entertainment Expo, the name of the Expo where Half-Life 2 was shown to the public.

No, I think he was firing at the washing machine, not random. I've heard many people say that.

After having that hugeass mask on for days (or weeks, or however long they are in the field) would probably make me shoot at washing machines, thinking they where humans. Having a viewpoint of two dirty 20x20 pixel windows isnt really a good idea in combat :)

:D

Maybe he wasn't wearing his glasses and thought the washing machine kinda looked like Gordon.

Gordon always wears his glasses so he can see fine. But if they get knocked off while playing everything gets blurry and you can't see well.
