tree models turning white/yellow

has anyone seen this happen before?

the map includes env_cubemaps, and they were built already when i made this screen
 
I've seen it before. Hell if I remember what caused it...

Did you try reloading the map?
 
yes, reloaded, re-compiled even

i even took out the env_embers brush ent that screws up the lighting
 
what usually causes this to happen is the model overlapping some kind of light entity and/or brush geometry. You are guaranteed to get this if you do something like what i tried to do one day. I was trying to put a dynamic light inside my jack o lantern model and every model in the vicinity turned at least half-white and it looked totally stupid, and not the good kinda stupid
 
hm, that could be it. it IS overlapping some brush geometry. but now i'm a bit confused, since the tree in the first garden area in ravenholm has a lamp suspended in it (over the swinging half-corpse) and this doesn't happen. could it just be the brush overlap that does it?

on a entirely unrelated point, has anyone ever tried to include env_embers in a map? every time i do it screws up the light big time, creating this strange oscillatting white glow that kind of sweeps over half the map whenever the embers ent is drawn.
