i cannot get the source SDK to work, nor can i get lost coast to work since i played it just once, then i could never play it again. The error I get for both is that the game is currently unavailable, yet people are creating maps and mods. I have never had ANY problem like this with any other game I have ever bought. If you buy a copy of a game legally, you should be able to play it whenever you wish.

Yep, Steam has a looooong way to go.

Are the games (including HL2) up to date? If not, you can't touch them until they are.

Try validating your files -right click on each game, then click properties, the tab on the right (can't remember what it is called), verify game cache. Something like that. Do it for all of them. Other than that, I don't know what the problem could be.
