I heard somewhere valve, like the creators of lost, are making up some parts of the story as they go along. so I was thinking, seeing as this is the most popular half life 2 forum and there is always a shizload of idea in the singleplayer mythology forum, do you think valve has made a few plants in this forum to harvest some idea, put red herrings for us etc?
discuss.

I understand what you mean by plants, but what are Red Herrings???

a red herring means a false hint in detectives' speach. Yeah, he wants to know wether we know anythin about some dude who might be a VALVe guy, creating topics that have the purpose of distraction.
No, I don't think there's something like that, or even necessary.

Well, they said they have a "Half-Life bible" that has the basic outline of the plot for however long they want to keep it going... but certain details are certainly in flux as regards to things dependent on gameplay. Most significant has been the "wasteland" outside of City 17 which was once a large empty space devoid of life, but now appears to be a dense alpine woodland. It doesn't have too much to do with the plot, but plenty to do with gameplay.

ASAIK Valve made HL1 with no idea of how to continue the plot. They made HL2 with a somewhat vague idea of where they where going and are doing the episodes with the conclustion in mind. I could of course, be very wrong.

Meh, I'd love them to use our suggestions, after analysis from every single possible angle in every universe first. And as long as it fits into the HLBible that they have, I don't see a single thing wrong.

A HLbible? O rly?! Once heard Laidlaw wrote a thousand sheets after HL1, but I didn't know...that there was ACTUALLY something akin to a script during the course of development! ha, Luck they're not like George Lucas...'Yeah, I don't use scripts. In the old days you might have needed a script, but today, we have computers, and, uh, computers and electricity. I don't need no script.' made me really laugh! Anyhoo, You know that quote? Any??

I propose an expedition to go to valve hq, abseil down the roof, break in and steal the HLbible, jump out the window (after grabbing team fortress 2 :D ) and post the whole hlbible in the singleplayer mythology forum.

No, they know where the story is headed. Of course they keep an open mind, and nothing is written into stone (except important details), so that they can change things if they want to, and so they don't write themselves into a corner and are able to keep the story open.
