Should Valve stick with it's current policy of announcing a game and releasing information intermittently or should they simply stay quiet until the game has reached atleast beta status?

valve should try to tell the truth like

there is no hl2 mp aside from cs:S
the cE will include this this and this
we are not releasing dates cause the game is still so months away
we love our fan base and appriate the wait.. stuff like that can go a LLOOOOOONG way..

as a customer don't you feel shafted?

the only time you should wait for your purchase for over a year is when a new car is slated for 2007 but the maker says there are only going to 20 of the in the world..

Anyways, I mean come on, thats just stupid...no MP besides CS? Valve wouldnt do it.

Oh yes they would. And will. Give me one good reason Valve would not reveal HL2 themed multiplayer? For a big "SURPRISE?" Please. They won't comment on it because they know if they come straight out and say that there is no HL2DM, it will cut their sales. HL2's multiplayer component, I am sad to say, will be CS:S just like they said. We must await the mod community for anything better.

As an HL fan, and mod fan, I completely feel shafted 30x over, I dont think they honestly care for the fans that have been waiting for the HL2 game or anyone at that fact, they like the idea of releasing it towards the holidays so more people will buy it, and I feel honestly so betrayed by them. Its like being killed by your own kids.

CS:S has nothing to do with HL2...besides the dang engine, theres no way they would make that the only MP. What about all the nice guns from HL2? I dont believe Valve would just forfeit them for use only in SP. I'm not an optimistic person so to speak, but logically HL2 will have its own MP.

We'll just have to wait and find out

well consider all the things that they are trying to release at launch right like hl2. cs:s . hl:s. steam as the only server client thingy system

so hl2: mp just seems like something that they will not be able to do up.
unless it does exist and cs:s is the best way to see if it will run well
or TF2 could be the new hl2: mp

the fact is no one knows and valve are milkin it so that people would pre-order.. its all about the pre-ordering cause that ensures them that they can take their sweet ass time..

and if you think about it. if hl2: cs:s and hl:s are the only games coming out at lauch.
the CE seems to be a useless purchase to make then. all you get is a plush toy.. wheres the fun in that .. all it does is collect dust anyways..

These arguments, where people say that Valves owe them the game, are funny. They really don't owe us anything guys, and yes, they are a business, whose aim is to make money, don't forget that, (Money from HL2 = Dev costs of HL3). But I do agree that Valves PR is somewhat lacking at points in time, but if that is what they need to do, that is what they need to do. And as long as I am able to play HL2 at some point (in my life ;)) then I really don't care if it is Sept. or Dec. (although please let it be Sept.) :D

How the hell can you say you feel "shafted" by Valve? They haven't even released the game yet. I say before we critisize Valve anymore, we play their game first. When we get to play that game, I dunno. Hopefully soon. But until then keep all your Valve bashings to yourselves.

Mirageacg's post was right on. I'm going to update my sig just for you people now.

I sure as hell feel like I am getting treated like a foreigner in the DMV. It's pathetic.

yea, it's pretty disrespectful -- at least it feels that way. Not to say that valve can't do whatever they feel like doing, but c'mon!

The thing is they know that we are all gonna buy the game anyways cuz that's how gamers are. It would serve them right if another, better or equal, game was released and ppl would just stick to that one instead of HL2.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work they do, but as a company you HAVE to respect your costumers, otherwise they will f you up in the end.

and by the way, CS:S is what will sell HL2, not HLDM:S (if that even exists)... counter-strike, whether you like it or not, is *the* game as far as numbers are concerned. Do I think DOD (or others) is better? of course i do! but the fact remains that CS has lots of dollar signs associated with it.

In any case, if HLDM:S doesn't exist, it will be created by us, the community. So chill out a little and save your negativity for yourself!

you mean hl2dm don't you?

only thing im afraid of is many groups of hldm fans trying to make their own version of it and there not being one that is recognized as the definitive. itd be nice to have a definitive effort on the hl2dm.

we can say that we are getting shafted cause majority of us have already paid for the bloody game and have been waiting for a YEAR

some of us bought NEW graphics cards which are not even up to scratch anymore

some of us have paid upto and including 500 dollars for these cards with the promise of a cool game to play with but where is the game
i don't see the game

i see a graphics card that is becoming obsolete fast but still no game that I PAID FOR ALREADY..

I would much rather Valve concentrated on making me happy with the final product than concentrating on keeping me happy while its in development, you can't have everything you know. There are companies out there that are really good with PR and terrible with game development, just accept that you are not paying Valve for the service of keeping you happy during the development phase.

You are paying for Valve to keep you happy with the final product.

EDIT: Oh and by the way, no one has actually "paid" for the game yet, if you pre-ordered then the money is still in your account and you can cancel the pre-order any time you like. If you got a voucher from a graphics card then you will never pay anything because the voucher was a free gimmick that came with the card.

And don't get upset because you bought a graphics card to play HL2 and now its getting out of date. You should never buy a graphics card for one game unless its a cheap card, otherwise you are really just wasting your money. And besides its not like your card can only work with HL2, you can use it for other things.

Oh, comeon...Valve has done alot better job at PR than alot of game companies out there.

They havn't been hyping HL2 since it was just a bunch of storyboard sketches (can we say 3dRealms and Duke Nukem Forever?)...I have no doubt that they had every intention of releasing HL2 last year before the code theft, thereby getting great advertising with a surprise announcement while keeping the gamers happy with a short wait.

And, can you name another gaming company where the head designers and programmers pop up on numerous message boards to keep the players up-to-date? Or one where they invite any gamer to come on down to their offices so they can have a tour and see whats going on with the game development?

Valve has bent over backwards to support their customer community. Appreciate the way that they DO communicate with us and stop whining about delays (or, maybe, find the hacker's email and whine to him...it's HIS fauly we're still waiting for HL2).
