ValvE Texture Files

Is there a way I can utilize the vtf format to convert my map's tgas. I'm hoping that I can get my map setup in a way that when the game ships, I can just move over my BSP and not have to worry about reconstruction. Thanks. -Cosmas.

Cosmas: You can wait until the game comes out and use the fully documented tools from the SDK. There is no other way.

urrrrr yes there is, u download the hl2 beta like everyone else and use hammer2 that u won't get with the public SDK because valve take things out from the public hammer because they think its fun. Tbh, i don't really care. at the end of the day I will be mapping with the 'illegil' beta walst u wait. Now thats ironic.

You're also obviously not very bright. Why would Valve not include Hammer with the public SDK? What did they leave out of the HL1 SDK?

lmfao ye your right I am not to bright. But i have enough IQ to download an illegal program and use it. I dunno what actual differences there was in the hl1 sdk but the hammer inside it was different to the valve one. Also I was taking the piss with the ironic thing if u didn't notice.

tbh no point argueing, I am not the one asking questions I just gave a simple answer. If u don't us the beta then don't I just don't care, I don't know u. I was just giving him the most logical answer.

The Hammer that Valve released with the HL SDK was the same one they used. They even released updates (i.e. the 3.5 beta). You're so wrong, it almost hurts.

and even if they did hold something back, then so what? They don't owe you anything. You have no automatic right to whatever tools they create. You downloading the illegal beta for your own ends is like smacking them in the face. You're effectively saying "Thanks Valve, but it's not enough. I want more. Now!" and then stealing from them.

I also don't care if you believe your answers to be logical. You do not post about the beta on here. You know that, and you continue to defy this simple rule. Final warning - any further breaches and you will be banned.

hl2.net are always just banning people because of the beta. Why don't u start banning everyone in the modelling room. Because its so obviase that not eveyone has 10,000pound for the 3d graphics programs they use. The fact that u ban people for even talking about the beta is *** At the end of the day you are only talking about it. The only excuse one of your other staff members had when I said this to him was that GABE! visits the site and that he likes it. Also the fact that the beta is NOT! the full game in anyway way. All it basiclly is it 1/2 an engine with some of the maps with not working AI or nothing really. There isn't even any decals when u shot walls. People only use it in antisipation for hl2's release. Also the fact that valve will proberly make over 500 million on hl2, infact Its proberly quiet close to a billion since games companys make more than movies now and priates of the carabian made over 200 million in like 1 mounth. Its just anoying that even people in the hl2.net staff have the beta and they admit to it but u still continue to inforce these rules. YOU! can not be prosicutes by valve for having people on your forum talk about the beta in anyway, unless they where giving links away from where to download but even now no one cares about the beta downloads because nearly everyone has it. I can see why u have these rules but tbh the beta is dry now and its starting to slacken off. Tbh most people just installed it checked a couple of things out and just left it. Except for people like me when every now and they I acasionally map for it like I would just 3dsmax to make a model FOR FUN! not to **** of valve and not to throw it back in there face. No one cares about the beta and nearly everyone will buy there copy of hl2 anyway even if it is just for the cdkey. Thats the only reason I bought hl1 was for the cdkey. Its not a lot of money at all and I don't mind buying games and would buy hl2 if it was out atm. But the fact is that it isn't and looks like its not coming out for ages now. So I might as well contiue to map for it to entertain my self and get used to mapping for when hl2 actually comes out. Then I can start mod work. Thats a thought. Because not even any mods are using the beta. I just don't get what the big ****ing deal is.

It's been explained to you time and time again, yet you seem unable to grasp the very simple premise that you will not talk about the beta here. It's not open for discussion. Just don't do it. Simple.

Just because you see it the way you do, doesn't mean that everyone else agrees. I'm pretty certain that Valve don't.

So until Gabe posts here saying that everyone can use the stolen code/assets with Valve's blessing, then you will continue to not talk about here.

Funny thing is, he's bragging about getting ahead using the stolen files. But you can bet $200 that he wont make anything decent (and if he does actually make anything public, I'll put another 100 down on him crying and complaining about it if other people started ripping off his work)
