Valve Update News

How do you know this? I can't remember reading this anywhere.

Also, wouldn't that conflict with the story? If the first part of the game is before the reactor meltdown, then Gordon and Alyx have to be put into stasis and moved back in time since the Citadel was going up right as the the game ended. Wouldn't this cause a temporal paradox (since Gordon and Alyx would likely encounter themselves on the way up to the reactor)?
What? It didn't melt down in HL2 yet, all that he did was blow up that sphere. We only saw part of the initial explosion, literally less than half a second of it before G-Man freezes us. For all we know it just obliterated that portal room but doesn't cause a massive chain reaction yet.

No, no, no. Gman doesn't control time in such a way. And its also very, very doubtful that Gman put Alyx into stasis. Basically, at the end of HL2 you disabled the reactor, putting it, and the Citadel into meltdown. It doesn't simply blow up.

The idea behind Aftermath is the evacuate the city before the thing does do whatever its going to do.

There are screenshot and footage from inside the citadel, you're hardly going to start in C17 and break into it again.

Okay, you guys have helped clear it up for me.

But I still have to wonder about the G-Man's ability to control time. Exactly what are his "employers" and himself capable of?

Hey... maybee we get to go too Xen in ep.1, that whould be nice.

doubt it tbh
it'd be far too hard to model and design as a level and be up to today's standards and it wouldnt make a whole lot of sense

You are escaping C17 because the citadel is going to explode. It's gonna blow up the whole city...

In the Aftermath video, Alyx says "I found him!" Shortly after, Eli says "Alyx, where are you?"

So, my guess is that from Alyx's point of view you just "disappeared" and she just started running, back to Breens office lets say. Mossman and Eli are gone, because they already got out or they are somewhere else. Gordon gets teleported by G-Man somewhere near Breens office, and comes out seeing Alyx. Alyx is in contact with Eli and she sees Gordon and says "I found him" or something. Then Eli says "Alyx where are you?"

Something like that. Anyway after that I assume you and Alyx run the hell out while battling whatever is left of the Overwatch in the citadel.

I have another theory. The Aftermath video starts with Dog looking down under some rocks and stuff, and I think thats kinda ingame.

I think it will be something similar to HL2 beginning. You are running, but you can't escape, like when you are attacked by combines from two ways and the stairs are broken. And in some way you get buried and Dog finds you, and Alyx is with him, and then they go somewhere and talk to Eli and says "We found him" and the story is going on.

Not impossible, right? :)

I don't think that an episode needs such a long intro. I believe that we'll get a Gman speech of some sort and then get dumped under the rocks, just in time for DOG to smell you.

Doubt it ... gonna be a bit more complex then that so we know what has actually happened.

Alyx is our new weapon. :)

And how is that suposed to be a good thing?

Valve needs to give us more combine tech weaponry, the Pulse Rifle just isn´t enough.

No, because it begins in the Citadel, and there are no rocks in the Citadel :)

Maybe as you start running through the Citadel trying to escape some rubbel falls on top of you burying you ... or something along those lines, and maybe thats where Alyx/Dog find you.

Yeah whos saying the rubble doesn't knock you out of the Citadel ;)

We'll obviously have to find out what happened by playing the game. That's the most typical feature of Half-Life. And I very much doubt, that we'd get another long intro, when the actual playtime will be only a fraction of the game, itself.

lol, the most typical feature of half-life :| I would have thought that would be the point of any game to find out by playing :P

..and when you're under the rubble, you get teleported to the lost coast and then back under the rubble.

Well, how are you going to explain the lost coast chapter then ?
There might be some places in "episode one" where it could happen, but the rubble thing seemed pretty appropriate.

The lost Coast was only there as a demonstration of HDR.

The Lost Coast was originaly a part of HL2 story, but they didn't finish it on time. When Valve thought about a good level to show off HDR technology, they found their old sketches of the Coast and brought it back to life.
It's kind of similar to Half-Life: Uplink. It also took place, like, in the middle of HL's story.

Back on topic, though - when's the next Weekly Steam News coming? They usually showed up on fridays or saturdays, but not anymore :( I need some more info on Episode One!

I got some Steam Update news 2 days on the trot last week :| .. dunno why, i load steam every day lol

In most games you are given the backstory beforehand and then you have to fulfill the objective of the story while playing. In Half-Life you don't know anything (unless you've been reading spoilers) until you actually find out things in game by paying attention to the surroundings.

I could name plenty of games that don't give you a backstory :P

Its perfectly logic if you got to go to xen in some way or another.

Alyx: Ey gordon! I know how to shut down the portal storms!
or:
BOOOOM *Gordon wakes up with a bullsquid sniffing at him.

OR! local transportation goes wrong. Again.
