As I've said many times before- outlawing guns only means that only outlaws will have them.

From the Article said:
Newly released data for Chicago shows that, as in Washington, murder and gun crime rates didn't rise after the bans were eliminated -- they plummeted. They have fallen much more than the national crime rate.

Not surprisingly, the national media have been completely silent about this news.

One can only imagine the coverage if crime rates had risen. In the first six months of this year, there were 14% fewer murders in Chicago compared to the first six months of last year – back when owning handguns was illegal. It was the largest drop in Chicago’s murder rate since the handgun ban went into effect in 1982.

Meanwhile, the other four most populous cities saw a total drop at the same time of only 6 percent.

Leftist politicians at the time were railing that this would dramatically increase crime and cause large amounts of death, that it'd be the wild west! This never happened- the opposite did.

Correlation vs causation? Not saying it's just correlation, but is there anything indicating it's a causal thing? Anyway, my stance on gun control is pretty simple: trying to ban them doesn't seem like a good idea when everyone already has guns, but allowing everyone to own them in the first place was pretty pants-on-head retarded.

Also, the word "leftist" makes me cringe. Stop using it please.

oh look canada's crime rate is dropping as well. it must mean looser handgun laws lead to armed citizens defending themselves from armed criminals

Canada's crime rate is falling, fuelled by a dwindling number of auto thefts, break-ins and mischief offences and fewer violent crimes.

also using "leftist" makes you sound like a tool

The change was specific to Gun crime and murder. True, correlation is not causation but two cities experiencing a similar drop in gun crime after lifting their gun ban is a very strong correlation.

There are other reasons crime can drop, so the lifting of the gun ban may not be the only factor but the two are definitely related.

While the murder rate using firearms dropped by over half from 1977, homicide rate using other methods declined less sharply. The firearm homicide rate was 1.15 per 100,000 in 1977 and dropped to 0.50 in 2003 while the non-firearm rate went from 1.85 per 100,000 to 1.23 per 100,000 in the same time period.

that was the year canada introduced legislation requiring citizens get a Firearm aquisition certificate before buying a gun. so OBVIOUSLY more gun control is responsible for less crimes being committed
