*Minor Spoilers about hidden easter egg*

For those of you who don't know about the secret vortigon speech read this thread: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=52745

The secret vortigon explains a lot about what they're still doing on earth, he also talks about freeman and the HL1 boss Nihilanth, plus a load of other stuff.

I've taken all the sound files of the speech out of the gcf and converted them into a mp3 for easy listening.

Get it here: Speech

Thoughts?

downloading it now, what does he say after "we remember the freeman"? sounds like "we are coat-ter-mittens?" i dont know.

I think he says "coterminous", which means:

1. Having a boundary in common; contiguous: The northern border of the United States is conterminous with the southern border of Canada.
2. Contained in the same boundaries; coextensive: the conterminous 48 states.
3. Having the same scope, range of meaning, or extent in time.

lol, dose yousendit.com let you link downloads off of the email or something?

It's not my sever it's just some crappy free host I got with my ISP.

Someone please rehost it if you can...

once i get it downloaded i will put it on yousendit, where they let you have up to like 30 downloads of the file for free, then the file goes offline (30 should do fine for soemthing like this)

so anyone else who is downloading it, please stop, that way its faster for me, and i can host it on yousendit

Man... some of that speach sounds like a bad impression of Bill Cosby. hahhaa! :D

Anyway... how do you get all these speaches? I try to hit Use on them but they rarly say anything.

These arn't all the sound files, this is just the speech that the secret vortigon gives.

Read the other thread I linked to, if you want to find him.

Thanks, I'd put it in the first post but stupidly you can't edit posts that have been replied to on this forum...

yes please write it up with explanations, at times i cant understand him but this stood out to me:

"for once the lesser master lay defeated (nihilanth?), we knew the greater must also fall in time"

Ahhh, i see.

Well, I'm writing up a transcript now. Expect it within an hour or so on this forum.

This is gist of it from what I can tell.

They are an enslaved race that was bound to Nihilanth (it seems like he may have been controlling them in the mind somehow?). They are free from him but they are still oppressed by whomever the combine is (I havn't beaten HL2 yet so there could be alot more too it than that). They seem to think that you Gordon Freeman have some sort of special bond with them (aside from gratitude).
Anything else I got from that I can really only interperet with my own theories.

Well, I just listened to it. In a way, it's typical; it explains either a lot or nothing.

It sounds as if the Vortiguant think or live outside of time, by the way he talks-- as if he knows the outcome of everything already-- but it could be taken for 'hope' instead of knowing. At several places in it he seems to suggest that he lives in the past, present, and future simultaneously.

He says the 'lesser power' that controls both him and Freeman will soon be destroyed, and the 'greater one', after. (Insert G-Man speculation here.)

He says that Gordon's shining face masks his 'dark nature'. (Insert G-Man speculation here.)

At the end, he says that "You are we and we are us"-- its either some kind of quasi-religious sentiment expressing how the vortiguant feel about Gordon as their collective savior, or that Gordon is somehow, someway actually a Vortiguant.

That's about I can remember. It's intentionally cryptic, and not too badly written.

I don't know why people leap to thinking that Gordon is the GMan let alone that Gordon is a 'gaunt.
Surely the easiest explanation is that they mean all living things are joined? Something that is currently outside the human experience, which they refer to at some point too.

The time thing really fits with another theory already posted on these forums about the ending.
Somthing to do with that in half life 2 gorden was sent to the future by the g-man to set certian things in motion so that certian events in the current time work out for the best or whatever. I ' know it's vague but with many other things I've found in the game I'm starting to put some solid peices together and Time travel is key to the whole thing.

forgot to add
that the g-man/gordon seem to be working for the vortigons helping them do somthing. As they all seem to have great respect for gordon above and beyond the normal hero worship that rebels have for him in city -17. Theres like a special connection between them for sure. My guess is that perhaps the vortegons future is that of destruction or perhaps that slavery that was talked about, and they hired the g-man to put things in motion to change the outcome.

Lesser power could be Breen and the Combine on Earth, and the greater one could be
the Combine Overlord? guy, the one you see talking to Breen

He says that Gordon's shining face masks his 'dark nature'.

Possibly something to do with the dark energy, and the strange things that happen to you inside the Citadel. Or maybe the G-man did something to you while you were in stasis.

First on this forum because I couldn't resist saying what I got out of his speech (Spoiler tags just in case):

What I gathered from the hidden Vort speech is that they do exist throughout all time in a... strange way. The Nhialinth controlled them with some sort of overpowering mind right? What if these Vort's are also telepathic? Now let's say it's not just normal telepathy, but they are able to telepathically communicate with all Vort's that have existed or ever will exist. The Hidden Vort's speech touches on this because he always refers to "himself" in the second-person. Saying "We relive that moment again and again." perhaps meaning that they can view that event through the minds of those who, in that time frame, viewed it first.

The Vort's could also be the "pinnacle" of evolution as it were. They seem very wise, very indifferent of themselves, and just like what Dr. Breen had in mind for humanity. If your whole species shared a collective mind that lived from the beginning of time to the end; wouldn't you be the top-dog? And wouldn't the top-dog of a species also not care that they are the top-dog? They know all that has happened and will happen therefore they are content to work with lesser species as friends or slaves. Or maybe it's just in their nature to be the very utmost in passivity... This has turned from fairly concrete thinking into my brain exploding all over the keyboard so I'll stop here while I got get some paper towel.

guys, sorry to disspoint you, but that's what all vorti's say...

I heard it first from the one with the two guys that give your airboat the gun, and later in the hut where you get the rocket launcher...

BTW: it does seem tha the Vortigaunts are telepathic or something 'cuz... I want to say in Nova Prospect when you are trying to save Alyx's father... there is a line that Alyx says, "we don't kow much about the layout of this place... some vortigaunts have sent back picture when they were captures before" [something]. Can't remember for sure... but it implies that they are telepahtic in some way.

The vortigaunt's referring to "Vortessence"? Could that be the sort of hive-mind of the 'gaunts? He also asks "How many are there within you?" Perhaps the whole vortigaunt species lies on the vortessence, they define their ranks and leaders through it and so on?

Well, the little book that comes with the CE refers to them as "Hive-Minded", so I suppose they're individuals of a sort (they seem to act that way, and even converse with each other), but connected to a shared background conciousness...

OMG he's so funny at talking i can't stop laughing :D
btw i was hoping to kill one or two of these... they made me some nasty scars in hl1 :x

Yeah the vortigaunts secret speech, isn't secret, I walked up to the one that resides with Colonal Cubbage and he pretty much said all the same things I heard in the 'secret' speech. :\
