Hello all, I did a search for this, but didn't really come up with anything helpful so bear with me, as this is my first post on these boards. ;)

I can't seem to get Gordon to walk, no matter what key I bind to the "walk" function in the controls list. I know this may seem anal, but it bothers me extremely, so much so that the first two chapters alone frustrate me to no end (still haven't gotten past Ravenholm, despite starting and quitting the game about 4 times now). I'm used to using the walk function in just about every FPS I've ever played to help move precisely (in narrow environments), to line up accurate shots, and to position myself strategically behind cover.

Again, I know this seems extremely anal, but I can't even really enjoy the game like this. I'm willing to do just about anything to get the walk function to work. Even if it means downloading a mod to do it.

crouch walking maybe?
i don't no if walking and normal movement are at all different in hl2

He is walking, you have to press Shift to get him to run, unlike in HL1, where he runs unless you hold down shift to get him to walk.

Actually, there are three settings: walk, run, and sprint. Run is default. Sprint happens when you use the shift key. There's supposed to be a walk function; check the controls and you'll see it under "miscellaneous." But binding it to anything does nothing.

I don't think that's true. By default, hold down 'alt' and you'll go slower. Not as slow as you'd expect for a 'walk' but definitely slower (I guess Gordon's walk is power-walking).

It is microscopicly less faster though.

Geez! Can you believe this? I've been struggling with this crap for months now. And 20 min after I make a post, I figure it out!

If you want the walk speed to be noticeably different, you have to edit the console. hl2_walkspeed. By default, it's 150, which is only 40 less than 190, the normal run speed. If you set it to something lower, say 80, you get a reasonable walk. Problem solved!

I thought you just had to hold the 'walk' key :/
But I'm happy for you that you solved the problem :p
