Was there any reference to Dr. Breen in Half Life?

The reason I am asking this is because I was reading the Prima game guide for Half Life 2, and it says:

Alyx Vance introduces you to a propaganda poster of the droning Administrator you've been attempting to ignore: Dr. Breen. That name rings a bell - he's the old Black Mesa administrator!

So I was just wondering, or is Half Life 2 the first time we hear off Breen?

Half-Life 2 introduces Dr. Breen for the first time in the series.

It's talking from Gordon's perspective, and Gordon would remember Dr Breen. It's just trying to make it sound a bit more dramatic.

There are cryptic references to "The Administrator" several times at the beginning of the game, but otherwise you don't hear Breen's name or physically see him until HL2. I still remember many people believing that the G-Man was the Administrator.

There was alot of linking visualy to the G-Man being the Admin during HL1 but Alyx's comment during "Red Letter Day" is the first time Breen is mentioned as the Admin of Black Mesa.

Breen in real world

I am going slightly off topic. Anyway, don't you think that Malcom McDowell would make for a wonderful Dr. Breen in a Half Life movie?

Dude, make a new topic. Something like HL2 casting or something.

And there were many references to the Administrator being the one responsible for the resonance cascade.

Halo movie in production. Now, that's gonna make me laugh to tears!
Whoa, creepy. Just as I read that, my iPod started playing the Halo theme.
Movie's still gonna be terrible though. Doom, plus armor suits and dramatic space scenes and minus The Rock.

Yeah, Breen as mentioned as the "Administrator" quite a few times, though never by his name.

Breen can't be, in my Op4 manual a letter is signed by the administrator by the letters 'L.M.'

I don't remember what the Op4 manual's letter is about, but are you sure it's the Black Mesa administrator writing it, given that it's addressed to Adrian Shepard?

I could have sworn I heard one of the Valve guys saying that the HL manual was canon (with the letter from the admin in it).

Wasn't Alex Kleiner from the strat guide? In the manual he's just called Dr. Kleiner.

And Sol, it's signed

Office of the Administrator
Civilian Recruitment Division
Black Mesa Research Facility

OTA: LM

in HL1. I have the OP4 manual in front of me and there's no letter in in, just Adrian's diary.

It's signed by someone in Breen's office, not by Breen. Probably just a secretary.

I read LM is Marc Laidlaw backwards, or is this some kind of stupid thing like the G-man is Gordon Freeman...?

Anyway, yes I know "administrator" was talked about a few times in Half Life, but not by Dr. Breen.

Who knows? Homers Hair and Ear on the right side of his head spell MG -- the cartoonist who draws him.
