Water Hazard chopper - is there a trick to this fight?

So I get the big gate open, follow the canal, go through the sludge tunnel. I can't get there with better than about 67 health, some Machine Gun ammo, two mortars, 1 grenade.

Auto save. And then there's this one chopper, just waiting for me, along the creek, with the big boat beached on the left. I'm on foot - is there a trick to getting past this guy? Because I can't seem to down him.

Should I reload to where I dumped my boat? I'm getting my butt kicked here....

the trick is to run away

you need your boat. unless you're a leet, there is not a trick that I know fo that will let you beat the chopper without a boat.

You are never supposed to ever truely LEAVE your boat. You keep it till the end. :-P

your first problem is you dumped your boat

your second problem is your screwed

Thanks - the last three posters got it right. I had to load a save at where I dumped the boat and replay it forward. I think basicaly the level is unbeatable unless you can jet past the choppers and the rockets.

Made it to Ravenholm and lovin' the grav gun so far.
