It's been decades since I last played Counter-Strike. I think some beta 4 or 6 was my last one.

Nonetheless, I remember back then that Cliffe/Gooseman said that weapon damage is based on the ammo type it uses, not what weapon if being fired.
In other words, a Glock 18 dealt just as much damage as an MP5, and the USP, Mac-10 and the UMP all shared the same damage.

Is it like that now as well? In CSS that is.
I can't really determine it for sure myself, seeing as I hardly manage to kill anyone with the Mac, but people fall fairly fast (enough) with the UMP, but it could be the Mac's incredible rate of fire and recoil that makes it rather difficult to handle.

Oh, and also, does the P228 still penetrate armor? I remember it did when it was first introduced. People fell like flies, but now they don't. Does it have any kevlar penetration at all (as in suffering less damage absorption from the kevlar).

Thanks in advance.

I don't know, you might want to email Valve with this one.

I think since the olden CS days, right through to when it got sold out to VALVe, that is, the weapons were like that. Now, since VALVe had it, they've done a lot of "Balancing" and tweaking and stuff, which has made it a totally different game.

So no, I don't think they still work on ammo types, and I don't think any gun (Except the AWM), has any armour penetration at all.

But Email VALVe anyway, you'd be surprised.

every rifle has armor penetration and so does the fn 5/7.

Realism?

the weapons have been heavily balanced in CS:S it seems, but all weapons can punch through the corner of a box/door (and thankfully not walls :P)... so thats something, however, the power affects how much of said corner can be shot through (how much object you can shoot through)... sadly the AWP is still a 1/2 shot kill gun. that disappointed me somewhat, though the rest of the weapons are much more even now.

Blargh.. Kill Awp! :x

All this whining about the AWP when the desert eagle does more damage... I got hit for over 200 damage with one bullet from the deagle. I've died more to pistols than the AWP.

err.. doesnt the awp do up to 500 damage?

AWP has been taking over by the annoying Auto Rifle, which has no recoil, and owns tbh, better then the AWP against lots of people, caus it just fires 20/30 for Ts, over an over again

"every rifle has armor penetration and so does the fn 5/7."

Does the P90 penetrate armor as well, then, seeing as it's also a .57 (though the detailed readout says it uses the same ammo as the AWMP).

The P228 uses .357, which is used by a selective revolvers, which I believe are quite powerful, and could have somewhat the same stopping power in a more compact design.

The Eagle clearly penetrates armor. It's like a rifle with 7 bullets and less recoil.
The rest of the pistols I find useless, except the glock.

I've also noticed that damage decreases over distance. I imagine rifles decrease less than shorter weapons, like the submachine guns and pistols.

The pity about the SMG's is that they're pretty much useless.
Why buy an MP5/P90 when you can buy a Galil or a Famas for nearly the same price, but at better stopping power. I hoped the SMG's would be the "Run and Gun" weapons, but their recoil is worse than that of a rifle.

I understand that the weapons aren't realistic. CSS isn't realistic in any way, and I've come to accept that (after 4 bloody years), but I'm asking so I can figure out which weapon is useful, and which is not.

So far I just go with the Eagle. If I need an automatic weapon there'll be plenty on the ground.

The p228 is not a magnum, the mussle velosity will not be nearly that of a magnum revolver.

in real life the damage a weapon causes is not only determined by the round fired, but by what kind of gun shoots it. if cs was really realistic, it would umm yea..you get it.

Naturally. Our "reolver" is the Eagle anyways, but still, it should pack quite an amount of power, should it not? Right now it feels like the USP without the silencer and an extra bullet.

It -does- a fairly good amount of damage. I once registered 28 damage on 1 hitat about 3-4 meters hold.
The only problem is that at that range, the Eagle would've done 60+ :/
