I am sooooooooooooo sick of looking at mods and seeing nothing but berretas, spas-12's, awp's, usp's, m4 (or m16), ak's and raging bulls. Is there No creativity anymore? Why not some wild west revolvers instead of raging bulls? Why not an old winchester rifle or a m14 instead of a damn m4 and ak all the time? There are soo many diverse and creative mods, but they all have the same damn weapons!! Be more creative for the love of GOD. I swear if i see another mod with berretas and an m4 or ak, i am simply never going to look at that mod or play it, becuase the team simply lacks creativity and isn't worth my time. Is anyone else sick of looking at the same weapons for every single mod?

amen to that, whenever i see a news update for some new mod and all it is is some ak, berreta, and m4 renders, it makes me wish i could go back in time and keep myself from clicking the news update.

I blame counterstrike for this debacle

I'm sick of people thinking that by saying 'If I see another [insert crappy complaint here] then I'm gonna play [certain mod here]' people are going to care.

If you don't like what you see from the mods, make your own. If you want to see original weapons, model them yourself. People put a lot of work into modelling those weapons, and I know I'm proud as hell whenever I finish, hearing someone like you bitch cause you've seen one like it before is just plain irritating.

Gonzo, it's true that people put a lot of work into their models, and simply dismissing them because they're like other models is a shitty thing to do. However, there really is a lack of creativity in the models people put out. There are some good reasons for this. For one thing, it's a lot easier to model a gun that already exists than create your own, from scratch. For another, weapons like old winchester rifles may be very cool, but they'd probably ruin the feel of games like CS. Still, I'd love to see more inventive weapons and whatnot.

But you have to be honest, when people do media releases, they'd probably get a hundred times more interest if they showed their models in an in-game environment, rather than just an unskinned render of an AK.

seeing stuff like interesting character models, really nice environments, good concept art, interesting weapons, or screenshot of a new feature is what gets my attention.

Putting up another m4 or ak when there are already 5000000 mods that feature those same guns is a quick way of getting ignored

Is it going to kill you to be original? Must you follow every other mods weapon set? If your sick of people saying that, maybe you should get a clue and try something else, we don't need 10,000 mods with usp's, berretas, and Ak's. Stop being so goddanm lazy.

Well, actually. Just because the developer wasn't going for original weapons, doesn't mean he tried following other mods weapon set. (or that he didn't have any creativity in him)

I myself want to include many similar guns (atleast two) like in other mods, but that doesn't mean I'm trying to copy what they have or that doesn't mean I don't have any creativity. People might want to use a gun other mods are using because it might have that look they like, or that feel they like. Or maybe its some other reason.

Besides that, usp's, berretas, and Ak's are cool.

They might be, but they're not exactly going to pull in the punters during a media release. By all means, have standard guns in your mods, but don't go "OMG LOOKZOR ITZ AK TYME!!" and show them off as the sum total of your mod. To me, most AKs look the same, no matter who's they're rendered by. Except the extra pants looking ones.

Your in luck, were doing a western mod for a senior project at our college. Only one level is currently planned, but if we have time we will do more. Were going to include all the classic cowboy guns and such.

WOTAMOD. There will be a toaster mace, a street sign battle axe, a junk cannon (think a .50 mortar with a shotgun stock), and lots of other crazy stuff. Of course, there will be AKs and whatnot, as well, but smashing someone in the face with a toaster is a pretty original weapon, in my opinion.

Having one or two popular guns isn't bad. The AK is probably the most common gun on earth, after all.

But if you're not making a mod based on a communist country or any traditional war, by all means pick something else.

Mods should be trying as hard as possible to shoehorn in new and unused weapons.

But if the mod is going for a set theme and the new weapons don't fit it, they won't be used and the mod team will probably go back to the original, common weapons. They may be trying, but if it just doesn't work then it's not going to be included.

I want to see reeeally unique weapons. Not just less-used ones. That toaster mace is awesome, but it'd be nice to see somethin even more inventive than that. This one idea that I had was for a first-person magic game (weird as hell, but whatever). You see your two hands in front of you, and when you equip a certain spell and use it, they'll move in this crazy, magical way when you're casting the spell. You also see all the energy and whatnot being shot at your enemy.

That'd probably suck, but that's what I mean by reeeally unique weapons- something that's NEVER been done, or even thought of, before.

I'm sure there was actually a Half-Life 1 Mod like that, Wizard Wars or something. Can't remember getting too into it tbh, but still its been done. :P

Regardless, new and original ideas are good. I especially like Caliber's gun models. :)

The context of the mod will determine what weapons are in. You should judge a mod based on its gameplay rather than what weapons it has.

SWWWEEEETTTTT! If you guys need any help, pm me.

gameplay is more important than weapons most of the time. but if all someone does is make up some weird sounding name for their mod, post some weapon renders, but doesn't say anything about gameplay. No one is going to care

Argyll has the right idea, it's not the guns that matter. It seems everyone is talking strictly about media releases, in which case I agree. Nobody wants to see your un-skinned AK render. If you want an impressive media release, show us that you're in-game and you plan on staying that way (that means it will actually amount to a real game)

In terms of actual mods, I think it's so easy to make a game that people are out there starting projects just because they can, not because they have a good idea for a game. Am I the only one dissapointed that the first real total conversion for half-life 2 was a game that offered not much more than counter-strikeish gameplay with objectives? I don't care if the only gun a mod has is an AK-47, but I'll only play it if you have to use it to flip pancakes, or deliver it to angry refugee squirrels.
