Web Designing Help

A friend of mine offered me a part time job as a web designer for his webhost, so I want to learn how to design webpages, can someone point out some good web or print resources to help me start? I'm fairly decent in PHP (once wrote a backend for my blog complete with a mySQL database to store the blog entries), but I know naught about designing the actual webpage myself.

You mean like HTML and CSS?
I just use www.w3schools.com
Though a friend taught me html, in which I took it from there.
