EP1 was a lot shorter than I expected. According to Steam, I completed it in 9.7 hours which stretched out across 2 days. At least it wasn't expensive when I bought it. Anyone else feel Ep1 was cut off a bit too short?

Yes,it's not the HL2.It's smaller.
A LOT smaller.
And frustrating.
Play Ep2 instead.

Well, I did enjoy it but I felt that the main enemies were zombies and antlions and there wasn't much of a Combine presence, I know it sort of makes sense as they're pulling out of City 17 but still, it would've been more of a challenge with less zombies and antlions. I have to admit, I HATED the underground bits after the Citadel, the flashlight made my PC lag like crazy. Alyx was doing most of the killing until we got back to the surface. I've seen a playthrough of Ep2 and when I get the money to upgrade my PC (extra 1GB of RAM and an Intel or other dual core processor (recommendations please))

Thankfully, I doubt we'll see much of the Xenians other than Vortigaunts in Episode 3. So finally we might be in for a bit of a challenge (although the antlion assault in ep2 looked fairly challenging.)

Episode 1 runs terribly on my system, always takes forever to load, have to wait like 1 minute after it loads to get speed ot normal, it's all slow and crappy like that, even when on medium settings. Yet I run HL2 and EPISODE 2 on the highest, and they both run great and load fast. Because of this I've only played through Episode 1 twice. Even though it is fun, I just can't stand waiting for it.

It was a bit too buggy and unstable, and could've benefitted from more storyline and scenes to the effect of Episode 2.
Otherwise, however, it was a great game.

you really don't need a dual core to run Ep2 on highest settings

9 hours is longer than most people took to complete it. I think Valve said it would take about 5-6 hours prior to release, and quite a few people afterwards said it took them about 4-5 hours. Anyway, it's an episode. I think they're meant to be about a third the length of HL2 each, so if you played them all together you'd get about the same playtime, maybe a bit more.

9.7 hours...O_O

That is quite long. It is, on average, around 4-6 hours long.

Did I ever tell you all how I completed Episode One without a-

Oh.

Took me around 9 hours, too.

i like just running around and beating the crap out of every enemy with a crowbar.

Fleshlight?

wtf? lol... I goggled it and it's NOTHING like the flashlight...

*acting innocent*

Anyways, the main thing about Ep 1 is the story, they did a good job developing the plot further even though it's a little short...

I don't think the time of playing first time a Half Life game is relevant. There are huge fans ( I'm one of them), who like to spend minutes in a place looking at every detail, enjoying the beauty of the game. Usually, when I'm playing first time, I "take my time" checking every corner for details and perhaps easter eggs. On the second play, I also take my time, loading back many times to try a different approach on enemies or onto environment. I never rush, I wouldn't forgive myself to miss something.

wait. You watched a playthrough of Ep2 BEFORE YOU BOUGHT IT?! what were you thinking!!?!?! You ruined the experience and all the cool stuff that happens unexpectantly wont be!!! WHY?!

Same here.

"Hmmm, I wonder if I gravity gun that thing."

"What happens if I fall down here?"

"Does that explode?"

Haha i kno. i mean valve didn't go through all that trouble in making the most detailed game of all time to just rush through it.

It took me 6 hours to complete it. Id say that it is good, but it is the worst part of the episodes.

episode 1 is terribly short but fun! i liked zombie animations though. But that HDR thingy is too laggy. I cant tell difference between HDR and normal lighting. I found some HDR maps iand i didnt liked it. ( i mean HDR not maps)
