What are the QUESTIONS?

What are we all doing around here? Pretty simple...besides wasting time till HL2 comes out, we're looking for ANSWERS. But, before we get the answers we seek, we need to know the QUESTIONS. So, what are the main questions...those questions that will answer (almost) everything about the mysteries of HL2?

If I may be so bold, I think that there are just TWO questions whos answers will give us all of the information we seek.

Question 1...What has happened in the interveining years between the end of Half Life and the beginning of Half Life 2?

This is a big one...perhaps THE biggest question so far. With the answer to this simple question, we could figure out how the Earth went from the familiar place we remember at the end of HL to the post-apocalyptic, Orwellian world we've been introduced to in the movies to HL2 in just a matter of anywhere from 5-10 years. Basically, it would set the stage for HL2 (something that we have only been teased with so far).

Question 2...What is Gordon's task in City 17?

This doesn't sound like much of a question. Certainly, it doesn't sound like one of the MAJOR questions that will give us the info we all so crave. But, let's think about this for a minute... Assuming that we were to know the task that Gordon have been given, ie WHY has Gordon been brought to City 17, we could begin to understand the conflict that IS HL2. This answer would give us the backgrounds and motivations of the factions (the Combine, the Xen aliens, the Rebels, the Admin, and the G-Man).

So, while Question 1 gives us the WHERE and WHEN, Question 2 gives us WHO and WHY. Now, all we have to do is answer the questions...

1: Well, as far as Gordon goes, he's been in stasis (suspended animation, deep sleep, hibernation whatever) for the whole time. But as to what happened to the world. I think Xen fell after the first game, Nilly died and Xen weren't a threat anymore (But Valve kept those pesky headcrabs in just for fun) so Race-X and/or the Combine took over their place as public enemy numero uno. If the combine took over after Xen there is certaintly more to it, some political intruige, with propaganda to make earth believe that they are friendly. How City 17 ties into all of this, I have no idea what so ever.

I think the overarching question could be "How did it all start?". Or possibly, "Who's behind it all?".

who are the combine?

was the BMRF incident staged or accidental?

what became of adrian?

how did the vorties join your side?

where did all the new monsters come from?

how did the combine pull off that whole biomecha thing with the gunship and manatee?
