What are the Vortigaunts still doing here..?

From what we've seen in the opening of Ep1, the Vorts can operate in the same "plane" as the Gman. So why are they still here when they could go back to their world and rebuild? Or where are reinforcements that they could bring over from their world?

Just something to wonder about. As before Ep1, we did not know their capabilities. Do they pity the resistance that much they would risk their entire race to help them?

One presumes their world is messed up worse than earth, if not has already been destroyed after exploitation of resources by the combine.
Were then any possible 'reinforcements' to send over, im pretty sure they be fighting to save their own butts.

1: Just because they can operate on another plane doesn't mean that they can move between different universes.
2: Their homeworld may be completly ****ed over or be a Combine base (Marc Laidlaw has said that it was the Combine who chased the Vortigaunts from their homeworld to Xen)
3: They are pretty pissed off the Combine and seem to like humans, to some extent. Maybe they want to stay on Earth or just fight the Combine.

Rather than fall under the domininon of the Combine, those Vortigaunts now stranded on Earth have joined with humans to fight for the freedom of all.

Thank you sir. I still need to get that book. It just seemed odd, because the Vorts and humans weren't always united. And it being "almost" 2 decades, I would think they would've gone back to fight their own battle.
