hi, i have a msi 6600 gt agp 128 model video card.
i am getting as low as 25 fps in outdoor areas, although sometimes its well into the 100s for indoor areas.
all setting are at max, except no AA and no anistropic.
i am running 1024x768.

i would have thought i could maintain 50 fps no matter what with that video card

And, of course, the inevitable question...

What are the other specs? Quickly now.

edit: D'Oh! Beat me to it. Next time, diluted, next time!

i have about the same video card and 2.8ghz cpu with 512mb ram

and of course, a fps average of 35fps in outdoor areas with 7fps as low to a max of 135fps

p4 2.6ghz cpu with 800 mhz fsb
480 W neo pwer PSU
1 gb ram (4x256 ddr)
80 gb serial ata hdd

i would have thought i could play this with a steady 50 fps at least.
do i need a better cpu?

no you dont hl2 just has too good graphics for anyone(i think)

With no AA or AF, I get about 60-70 fps with a 3.2 GHz Pentium, 1 GB DDR2 ram, and an x800 SE.

With what you have, yours is about right.

You'll get a higher frame rate if a mod moves this to the CORRECT forum.

6600Gt also

I have a 6600Gt also, and i was getting 60-70 indoors and 40 outdoors. but then i used 3d-analyze and forced hl2 to use low precision pixel shader, and now i get as high as 170-90 indoors and 85-50 outdoors.

cpu amd athlon xp 3200 2.2ghz
ram 512mb pc3200

3,2ghz p4
gig ddr2 ram
256mbx800xt pci-e

30-75fps
all maxed 4aa and 16af
v-sync on
res 1280/960

i have the bloody stutter on occasions mostly when opening doors.loading new areas and on the chapters on the coast

P4 3.2Ghz 800Mhz FSB
1gb PC3200 DDR RAM
Sapphire x800 Pro 256mb

Everything on Full except AA (4x) and AF (x8)

Lowest I've got is 25fps (usually in really detailed areas when they're really busy), i usually get between 50-100fps

I was running it on Dell supplied P4 2.6Ghz with all the other stuff before and i got no higher than 30fps.

pfft.. picky.

That can be right... i get about 40-50 fps on my old geforce4 with settings at medium... :(

this wasnt a call otu for ppl to post their avg fps... i wanted to know why my performance isn lousy with a 6600gt... maybe its not so lousy after all

Put some of the other stuff on lower settings (textures) then turn on AF. then you should get better fps.

Performance in Hl2 is very CPU dependant (after vid card)
my brother maintains a much steadier fps with a fx5200 on a p4 2.8ghz than on the other machine that has a 9800 pro on a p5 2.6ghz

I will see what kinda difference a new cpu/mobo will do when I upgrade in a couple months (waiting on BF2)
but according to a few benchmarks I have read, after GPU, CPU is the next effective upgrade.

also I have 1gb ddr 3700, upgraded from 512, the difference was negligible. I would not recommend upgrading ram if you already have 512.

instead upgrade GPU, or if you have a strong card (9800 pro or better) go for CPU.

ALWAYS run HL2 with shaders set to "LOW DETAIL"! there is no visual difference between high and low shaders, and you'll score 15 FPS outdoors.

Now go save C17

If it is cpu dependent, then why do I get 40fps in a lab where nothing is going on at all. Just the doctor is looking around for Lamar.
