What happened to my shear tool?

Does anyone know how to go back to the original shear tool? (Thats the third handle-selected tool, like scale and rotate.) It used to be that I could snap the corners of the ends of the brush I was shearing to the grid. Now, it snaps to the middle of the end of the brush, or seemingly randomly. It happened an update or two ago.

That happens to me too. It's annoying as hell, I don't know how to fix it. I just vertex manipulate instead.
