What is "HL & CS: Source"?

I havent been around the community so much, so please, would someone explain me, what is Half-Life: Source and what is Counter-Strike: Source

Please excuse my ignorance. I also should've search for the answer, but im afraid to find too much results (time is of the essance )

Just in few words, what is this Source thing?

Source is the game engine for Half-Life 2.

Half-Life:source is Half-Life 1 converted to run on the source engine.
Ditto for CS.

"Half Life: Source" And "Counter Strike: Source" are ports made to the Source engine.

This means that you can play Counter Strike and Half Life in the full Source engine glory with improved graphics, effecs, shaders, psychics and what not.

Yeah, it is pretty cool. Counter Strike: Source for me is just meh, because I've never played Counter Strike, never. But playing the first Half-Life with beautiful graphics and revolutionary physics... it's gonna be awesome
