What kind of music do you typically listen to and what are your favorite bands? I listen to most everything except country and rap. I listen to all sorts of music from hip hop to rock to emo.

Some of my favorite bands are...

Paramore
Plain White T's
Boys Like Girls(Yeah yeah I know...shutup)
Quietdrive
Cobra Starship
FINCH!
Underoath
Senses Fail
Taking Back Sunday
Yellowcard

Oh and Linkin Park

Rock (mostly progressive rock, Rush ftw)

Classical (especially when done with modern instruments, example Fur Elise done in some wierd sounding keyboard, or Eine Klein Nachtmusik played with electric guitar and distortion)

Other (metal)

Mostly Indie. A lot of the mainstream music is garbage.

Rock, Other

Knowing this forum, you definitely should have added "electronic" to that list.

I like to listen to all types of music for the most part except country. The majority of my time I find is spent listening to rock, but that changes quite often as I get bored with genres somewhat regularly.
Favorite bands:
The Hives
Arctic Monkeys
The Killers
The Strokes
Radiohead
The Raconteurs
The Subways
and RHCP

What kind of music do I like? The kind that pleases my ears of course.
I like almost all genres as long as it doesn't make my ears bleed.

There are songs that I like in almost any genre.

But mostly, electronic.

Drum 'n' Bass, Breakbeat, ambient, acid, idm, etc.

Breakcore/Breakbeat/what the **** do you call it, Rock, Industrial/Electronic, Instrumental, Classical, other.

I like songs in every genre. I mostly listen to rock/progressive/alternative though, with some electronica. NIN, Tool, Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares, etc.

I like:

Led Zeppelin
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
David Bowie
Supertramp
Guns 'N Roses
Weird Al
The Clash
Ozzy Osbourne
America
R.E.M
And many other bands.

Elexctronics fan here but plus I also likes the other ones.

If I had to pick a music I don't listen to, it would be maybe Gospel, and Christian rock, and most country and wut wut sounds like country, and tribals and other foreigns stuffs that is just not common here.

This poll is so narrow in scope it's not even funny, it's like asking "what is your favourite sauce: tomato, BBQ or mustard?". Leaving "electronic" out of a list of common genres would have been acceptable in the 1970s, but this is 2008. Electronic music is probably the third largest genre in music after "rock" and "pop".

Wow, I didn't know anyone hear listened to emo rock here. Senses Fail and Paramore are pretty awesome under this genre. Check out the bands, Far-less, Mae, Emery, Scary Kids Scaring Kids and (God and Julie). You would love their music.

Speaking of my tastes and likes, if you take rock music

I practically live off alternative (Everything from REM to Incubus), grunge (Everything from RHCP, AIC, SG, GnRs all the way to Everclear, Alterbridge, Foo's, Hoobastank etc.), and experimental/nu-rock (Everything from Chevelle, Deftones, Oceanize, MuteMath up to LP, LimpBiz etc.)

Another type I enjoy is Brit-rock (Everything from the Beatles, Bgee's, U2, Kinks all the way to Muse, RH, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, Oasis etc. etc.) Although I don't venture too deep into this Genre/or Country

I listen to Punk and Emo as well, as I stated above. I hate Pop-Punk though. In terms of Punk, I enjoy everything from Sonic Youth, Sex Pistols up to Green Day etc.

And lastly, for the sake of headbanging, I listen to little bits of Metal, Progressive and Industrial (Everything from Porcupine Tree, Symphony X, Dream Theater up to Rammstein, Rob Zombie etc.) But I lack knowledge in this genre anyway, and I just listen to this just to vent my anger, or am feeling the mood for some dreamy sounding tune or something. I listen alot of Glam-Metal though, I don't care what you say, this genre's nice.

Other Genres

Pop Music> I enjoy everything that the radio has been blurting out since the 60's, I'd take anything pretty much, Simon Webbe, Prince, Josh Groban, Bryan Adams, hell even Avril Lavigne and Maroon5.

Downtempo and Trance> Trance is an awesome Genre. dj tiesto, samm, ian van dahl, Sundawner you name it. Downtempo is selective though, I enjoy Zero 7, BoC, Air, GrooveArm, William Orbit and a few others.

Lastly, I listen to jazz/funk music. Loads of it from my Uncle's Collection. It's good stuff.

Shit, this is a long post...but if there is one thing I can say, Music is a beautiful thing and I love the music I listen to..

At the moment it's mainly stoner rock, metal and electronic.

/chucks another log on the 'Other' pile

I listen to metal, which is itself too broad a term to be useful in describing someone's tastes. (Last.fm profile)

Rock, is the answer. It encompasses most of what I listen to.

Haha actually I already have some mae and emery. They are good bands. I am gonna check out the others, thanks for the suggestions.

Is Glirk Dient a teenage girl from California?

No actually I am a chinese robot from outer space(true story).

Oh and for the rest of you...I wasn't entirely sober when I made this thread so deal with it haha. At least I remembered to add other!

Not much that I shun other than Country and most Reggae.

I really want to explore the Clash and punk in general more atm.

But going down the list of artists in my "music" folder, i'll say that I love A Tribe Called Quest, the Clash, De La Soul, David Bowie, Cream, Herbie Hancock, Hendrix, Jurassic Five, Led Zeppelin, Medeski Martin & Wood, People Under the Stairs, Peter Frampton, Pink Floyd, RHCP (meh atm...), The Beatles, The Cure, The Flaming Lips, and the Who.

I really used to be into Hard Rock, then sorta ventured into early Progressive stuff, then Punk, to Electronic, to Jazz & Funk, to Hip Hop, and now i'm really interested in exploring Post Punk and Jazz again.

I absolutely adore Derelic7 btw...

:D :D :D
