what program to make videos?

ive tryed fraps but it only records like 15sec of video and its a like 130mb file, i tryed it at 1600x1200 and the file was 750mb for 15sec :flame:

Divx... is it a video player? recorder? it says it can use its codec to make the movie size smaller, does it record movies?

i want to get where some people make 8min long movies and its 70mb big

whats the best progam to use?

If you register fraps, I know you can at least import the huge video files into windows movie maker, and compress it down to, say, .wmv.

FRAPS records and encodes the completed movie while you're playing the game, which leads to poor performance. HL2 (and any game based on the Quake II engine, for that matter) lets you create a movie with sound from a demo. So, just record a demo (via the record console command), and you can make a move of it later. There's a nice tutorial for using this technique here.

Btw, you're going to have huge files with ANY video recording method you use, but with this method you can record at an arbitrary framerate (I've done ~300fps and then averaged every 10 frames to create a nice motion blur effect).

They use VirtualDub to put the individual movie frames together into a final movie. (DivX is a codec, which means it's a method for compression but not a compressor in and of itself). If you're looking to do something a little fancier, you could try programs like Adobe Premier, or (shameless plug) my video editing program, CML.

There's a cool demo video on the website. CML doesn't have a GUI, but it's free and still quite powerful. The download includes full documentation -- everything you need to know to get started with CML.

fraps is complete shit. the only way to go is adobe premier. everythign else fails in comparison.
