Through high school and first year of university I rowed competatively until I ****ed up my back last year. Now I'm looking for something else to occupy my free time. It's got to be physical and competative. I'm thinking maybe try XC skiing or maybe some form of martial art. Any ideas

Lacrosse. Rugby. Football (real football, not soccer.. that's no fun).

Karate (from experience - shotokan), and try some football. (Not american football, real football). ;)

Ewwww. Soccer ftmfl.

On a side note, has anyone seen that new gatorade commercial (I'm sure it's only being played in America) that plays "Take me out to the ball game" while showing footage of soccer? Then it says at the end "There's a new ball game in town" or something to that effect. How absolutely horrid is that.. To disgrace a song about baseball, by playing it along with soccer footage. And who even knew America had a soccer team? News to me.. It's all about Powerade. I suggest a nation wide boycott on Gatorade for ruining baseball.

Volleyball is pretty fun, won't stress your back horribly and is competitive.

Hurling, Gaelic Football (if your from Boston there should be shitloads of teams around that you can join) Mountain Biking (downhill/street/x-country)

RUGBY!!!!!

Jiu-Jitsu. Its a great way to meet people and build strong muscles and friendships. Oh, and probably get your ass handed to you more often than you'd care to remember (its the only way to learn).

Rock Climbing. Recently started it a couple of months ago, loving it so far.

Ever heard of the World Cup? Does Friday mean anything to you? Yeesh. Talk about ignorance.

-edit- Just to put it all in perspective, soccer is the most popular game in the world. Entire countries grind to a halt while their teams play, while half of the US hasn't even heard of the World Cup. The commercial is just trying to get our goddamn country behind our team participating in the largest international event in the world.

Yeah you clown, but guess what, soccer get's lower ratings than tennis in the United States. I am well aware that it is the most popular sport in the world, congratulations. To use such an old song about baseball along with soccer footage is stupid, and offensive to some. Just because the rest of the world likes the sport, why do we have to join in? I'll stick with real football, and baseball thanks.

How can that be offensive? Seriously. It's just a damn song.
But it's a baseball song along with soccer footage. Along soccer footage!

Anyway, I'd advice you to try basketball. It's a great teamsport, really boosts your moral.

But I think everybody is going to say his favourite sport so it doesn't really matter what I say :)

Meh, back on topic, play tennis. It's fun and requires minimal effort.

Sometimes we get four friends together and play "extreme tennis." You play across 2 courts and get 3 bounces on each side. If it hits the back wall you get 3 more bounces. Also you can hit it to your teamates, but you can't hit the ball to yourself and can't hit the ball to a teamate inside the service box. It's a great game.

-edit- Softball and baseball are fun too but you need a decent number of people to get a game together. If you can find a decent gym or outdoor court you could always shoot some hoops too.

Do you enjoy making yourself unpopular?
Just a thought..

Also, I am British and I don't like football (soccer if you want). I cant play it, and i'm not a huge fan of watching it. The world cup holds no interest with me.

But i'm not an ass about it.

Run, just run. That's what I'm doing everyday now.

Or try breaking a world record. Swim the channel.
