What's the best software for ripping a CD to mp3?

Try ExactAudioCopy.

Also, LAME is a pretty good MP3 encoder (WAV-to-MP3).

I personally swear by Exact Audio Copy, you can hardly find more accurate and simple conversion

I'm also a firm believer in EAC and a good LAME compile.

Yep, EAC and razorlame. Then a naming program (i use tag&rename). It's a 3 step process, but you'll get 99% or better cd quality. Couldn't recommend it more.

I use CDex for ripping CD's. I've never really used anything else so I don't know if it's better or worse than any others.
