what type of rpgs do you play?

i mostly play pc-rpgs now, i was a fan of the ff's then started playing games like fallout and baldur's gate, and that's what i've lately been doing lately

Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines will be my first RPG :)

although i'm a big pc-rpg fan, i still haven't gotten myself to go up to the bargain bin and pick myself a copy of deus ex :(

FPSRPGs - Deus Ex, and the upcoming STALKER.

could someone tell me why there's such a huge appeal to deus ex, i mean i want to get the game but i also want to know at least something about the game before i pick it up.

From what I gather, it was the combination of FPS and RPG elements that made it special. That and a compelling storyline that didn't involve fairies, elves, and dwarves but was set in a future not too distant from our own.

It's both a fine FPS and RPG game, with branching storyline elements and many alternative routes as you progress through missions. It's a brilliant look on the near-future, sending you travelling round the world through the crummy, broken down areas of NYC to high-tech military bases in the middle of nowhere as you attempt to unravel a global conspiracy.

That's the best I could do to explain it, but you really have to play it for yourself to get the full feel. It's just fantastic, okay?

I like lots of RPG's. Like fps shooter RPG's ranging from System shock 2 and Deus Ex to Action RPG's like Diablo and Dungeon Seige. I should probably get around to playing Baldurs Gate to sometime as well.

I just love it for it's depth, story, characters, scale and awesome atmosphere. Hell's Kitchen was quite the cool.

Well ive played most of the FF games, except FFXI nad im waitinf for FFXII. I also liked KOTOR alot also waiting for KOTOR2. Ive also played D&D oldschool before, it was actually kinda fun. Oh, i also played a little bit of Chrono Trigger (Is that the old one?) Also im waiting for Guild Wars which looks awesome, anyone else waiting for that game?

one thing about deus ex that kinda turned me away were the screenshots, all the enviornments look dark and danky, is there any "sunny" weather where the game takes place?

You never see the light of day :)

I like it like that, gives it a much more moody feel, plus it's just way cooler to sneak around at night.

I currently play Morrowind, but if Windows XP was capable, I would go back and play Little Big Adventure. I will definately play Vampire: Bloodlines when it is release

You were turned away becasue it was dark? Heh, dark futuristic settings is it's style. There are plenty of well lit areas though, it's just that practically every outdoor mission is at night. But if you can't see owt, turn up the 'ol gamma. Besides, it wouldn't be Deus Ex without the dark dank environments.

By the way, we are talking about Deus Ex and not Invisible War, right? Because I have nothing nice to say about that :/

Secret of Mana for the SNES, best RPG ever (along with the Zelda, Ocarina of Time, but that's more of an adventure).

Deus ex, FinalFantasy series, Diablo 2, Little big adventure 1+2, shenmue 1+2, Morrowind, Wizards and warriors. All amazing games

yes i was asking about deus ex1 that's all

and it's not that i don't like dark atmosphere it's that i just like variety in a game, one thing over and over is just too bland, imo, look at hl1 it's practically a reward to see the surface, i mean it would be cool for a totally dark game to show some sunlight at one point, it would kinda rewarding

Oh whops, forgot about diablo 2. I just remebered when i would get bored witht he first diablo, i would hide behind buildings and trees and wait for people to trade, then i would run out and grab it lol, good times. D2 was much better and had me even more addicted

Well, there is diversity - I mean you're not outside the whole game, there are a lot of well-lit indoor parts as well.

Little Big Adventure is an adventure, not an rpg. :P

Deus Ex is an incredible game. It hardly costs anything nowadays, so you won't regret buying it if you don't like it. And you will like it. :) Just read one of any of the countless reviews and articles praising the game if you're still unsure.

[EDIT]: Better yet, download the demo! :D

I'm replaying Icewind Dale II right now (on a harder difficulty setting ;))... this game rocks. Excellent tactical combat, complete control over the advancement of up to six characters, and just enough story and dialog to give the game a nice pace and meaning. :)

Edit: And the sound is sweet... love to turn the volume up on it. ;)

The point is, deus ex is amazing; you can play it by going on killing sprees or you could play it stealthly and never ever kill anyone ever, you can knock people out silently and without killing them with stuff like pepper spray, gas grenades, tranquelizer darts (sp :()
You increase in skill in certain aspects such as lockpicking, hacking into computers, sniping, melee weapons etc.....
and then there are augumentations to make you quicker, stealthier, heal, absorb bullets etc.....
this game has it all really
anyway its cheap as chips so you'd may as well buy it

edit- I played icewind dale but couldnt get past the first level :(. Dunno why it was just really hard for some unknown reason ;(.

baldeurs gate, icewind dale, fallout and planescape torment. the only good rpgs ever made :)

Diablo! hehe just kidding, fallout of course!

Chosen One! You must retrieve the GECK!

You mean a gecko? those golden lizards?

No the GECK!!

alright with the high suggestions of abom and a lot of other people in this thread, i started playing deus ex and it's just a blast, i mean it's soo satisfying to get behind a guard and knife him like crazy, and the skill system is just really really cool!

on the skill system, i'm not at all very far in the game but what specific skills do you guys think are kind of a neccesity, i mean; i know you can play the game in what ever way you want, but lets face it, some skills are just more used than others, what type of skills do you guys reccomend i upgrade in and what type of skills do you guys think i should stay away from?

All skills are useful but swimming, medical, demoltition and the enviroment one are pretty crap. Get at least one skill in hacking, lockpicking and multitooling. Then depending on the type of weapon you like add skills to weapons appropiately

i really enjoyed Deus Ex
ive beat it i dunno... ive palyed it liek countless times.

as for the guy asking about deus ex skills.... well oen of my favorite thigns was sniping. invest points into rifles, and when u get a sniper rifle, u can kill like anyone with a shot to the head... i loved that :)

oh yeah and i liked KOTOR :)

I like Morrowind, played Deus Ex one time but I wasn't good (I was like 13), I should play it again.

The only one I didn't really focus on was environmental training. But the fun of it all is to pick your own style of gameplay. I suggest you think about how you completed the Liberty Island mission, and then build upon the techniques you used. So for example if you like sneaking up on people and back stabbing them, you'll want to improve your melee skills. You also might want to improve on stealth skills as well, so lockpicking and electronics will work you here. You then might want to start hacking to make life easier, so computers can be built upon. And then, if you like using the stealth pistol, you build on weapons, pistol. Don't ask us, this is half the fun. :)

Stealth pistol with a laser sight, my favourite weapon. Deadly accurate, silent as anything, and only needs one or two headshots to take someone down. Excellent :D

The best thing to do is put every weapon modification you get on the stealth pistol. By the end of the game you have a pistol that has a laser sight, scope, is silent, deadly accurate, has a huge clip size, no recoil and one hit kills. Coupled with the GEP gun and dragon edge sword you don't need any other weapons. :D
