Now there is spoilers in here ladies and gents!

So assuming you have all made to the end of EP1  The last time you see Barney is legging it onto the back of a train, saying his famed line 'Ill see you when i see you' and it rolls off and vanishes into the myst of battle. Now i, hopefully like you lot, care about Barney i really love the guy, brother in arms so to speak, so after failing to see him at White Forest (where i assumed he was going also)and looking all over the place for the guy i can only speculate that Barney never got to White Forest and he was ether captured of killed enroute ether that or he was also hit in the core blast and doing the same thing we had to do, continue on foot.

The last point actually confuses me as he left before Gordon and Alyx so he should of been closer and the bulk of the Combine in the region would have been destracted with Gordon to. So the very fact Barney never turned up at White Forest confuses me. What makes things worse is if Gordon and Alyx in her fit of revenge are off to Borealis up North then will we ever find out what happned to Barney unless we find out over a communication from WF.

Any ideas?

Theres actually no hint at all in EP2 on his whereabouts. Noone even mentions him either. I'll guess we'll just have to wait until some new footage or vids for EP3

I'd like to believe that his train went a different direction and you'll either meet up with him again in EP3 or he's simply gone a different route to help out elsewhere.

He certainly isn't dead - Valve would never kill off a main character like Barney with out you seeing it.

The train proboaly took him to a different camp - we don't see train tracks running into White forest, except the ones that lead to the sawmill. I doubt he is on some kind of secret mission though. TBH I'm glad he wasn't in EpiTwo - there didn't feel like there was any correct moment for him.

Barney has been fighting in the Street War for a week. He is taking a break.

I'm not sure thats stictly true. I would love to have him arrive at the launching of the rocket and say 'sorry i'm late the combine wanted to have an appointment with me' but he got through to watch the launch. Something like that would have worked, saying that i agree with you up untill the end there was no room and frankly there is no room for him it seems in EP3 so what will happen im not sure.

I hope he finally got that damned beer he's owed me for 20 years.

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you've got;
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came!
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

"[english]ep_02.reb_silo_evacuee" "Hey, Doc-I just wanted to say thanks. I was on that train you helped evacuate from City 17." I find this in episode two content.gcf

Valve is banging their heads against their desks now when they noticed they forgot about Barney.

I doubt he will be in Episode three. I really cannot see how he could posibly be in it, anywhere.

agreed as gordon will be heading in the direction of the borealis and barn will be off in i should imagine the oppasite direction.

I guess he will be storming the borealis with his rebel soldiers or something,or at least i hope,i kinda like the guy,and he owes me a beer

What do you mean you don't see how he could be in episode three, you don't know what the **** they're doing with it :|

I would like to meet up with him on the way to the arctic base and have him be my companion womething like Alyx was in Ep. 1. I might even get a barney hug...

I neeeeeeeeed Barney!!!!! ;.;

Come on Valve, don't disappoint your drooling fangirls...

Too bad I really wanted to see him own Magnusson good, even though Magnusson is my favourite character now I still want to see Barney interact with him.

The tracks at the mill arent the same tracks you rode out on....your tracks were up on the mountain, while the mill is about the same level of ground you woke up on...its really impossible for us to tell just which direction the train was going when it crashed, but it seems plausible you guys were both heading North, if you compare the original map of Gordon's Journey before they trimmed down HL2....so who knows, he could be headed to teh Kraken...

I'm sorry, but thats simply ridiculous in my opinion.

He's technically made an appearance in both Half Life Arcs and would therefore be stupid by Valve by simply telling us, via Kleiner or someone; "Oh, I've got some bad news for ya, Barney crashed the train! lol"

I think he could make an appearance in episode 3. For instance, if the ships about to blow and you cant get off the ship, you could have Barney lowering a chopper or something ready to get you out...

Open your mind, Half Life is full of surprises :bounce:

The absence of Barney struck me as odd too, but only after finishing the game. Throughout playing it, it never occurred to me. I just don't think there was much of a role Barney could have filled without making his presence seem shoehorned.

What was odd was not so much that he wasn't there, it was that nobody mentioned him at all. Maybe they where never headed to White Forest at all.

He left a few minutes before you. His train made it over the bridge before it collapsed and continued to its destination, which was never white forest afaik.

He certainly isn't dead - Valve would never kill off a main character like Barney with out you seeing it.

How would you know...? They could've fallen out with him. Or he could've commited digital suicide!

I like barney too, hopefully the next time we see him he will have the beer he owes us.

Barney is certainly not dead. Shapiro is still on the job and the character has become a favorite amongst the fans. If they were going to kill him off, they would have made a very deliberate attempt at showing you.

He's probably with Breen, partying in limbo.

I must say this is quite interesting (assuming you aren't lying XD) although, i cant recall ever hearing it in ep. 2, its kinda weird that this would be in the content file (maybe its an extract from ep. 3?), yet you still hear no mention of Barney's wherabouts which I agree with most of you is quite odd.

You know, we're unsure of what happened to any other citizens we had on our train. It would have been cool to be moving with a large group of survivors at first; I think it would have been kind of neat to go down into the mines with a squad, guns-a-blazing (you wake up weaponless, your stuff all over, and several NPC's pick up one weapon each).

Also, we don't even know where we where heading when the explosion happened. We showed up at White Forest by mistake, and we probably where the fault of all the attacks.

Perhaps he's been sent on some mission that's so secret that no-one is talking about it, in case they get captured by the Combine and they learn of the mission?

He will join us right before the finall battle in ep 3...trust me hehe
but ist quite creepy that hes not even mantioned in ep 2...

I thought we talked about this a BILLION times already huh?

How tragic it would be for him to have been 'enhanced' by the combine. To be forced to fight a brainwashed Barney in EP.3.and then to help restore his true identity, would be a great story arc.

BTW, hi everyone.

I'd wretch.

Or being latched with a headcrab somewhere... hah! that'd be funny. After all his head humping comments :P. I'd make some pun or something about it.
He'd become a Zarney.

I would have loved to see Magnusson and Barney clash, I really couldn't see Calhoun taking shit from him :p

He better be in Episode Three :/

He's abducted by aliens.

Or by combine, you tell me.

Open my...uh, do you know who I am? o_0

Anyway, he dead. Don't contradict me on this. Which isn't to say he won't be alive again in Episode Three, but he's dead in Episode Two. KIA. Who cares how it happened, he dead.

We heard his disembodied voice cheering us on from beyond the grave after the strider battle. Dead.

And come now Absinthe you know as well as I do Breen isn't partying, he's outfitting his robotic body to survive subzero temperatures for his trek up north.

I immediately thought of this guy with Breen's face superimposed on it.
