White Forrest + Sign "White Forrest Inn" + Aly saying "This place must have been nice sometime ago" makes you believe you are not in an former east-european environment anymore.

Discuss.

Considering you got on a train and could see the Citadel from White Forrest, I doubt we've moved from East-European.

In a city you would expect small houses/apartments, out skirts were large buildings and villages, probably because the owner had a lot of the land and mine/resource companies that are scattered across the mountain.

Probably the hillbillies/rednceks in European terms...

yea, but I don't get why all the containers have russian letters all over it, and why the mines had russian writing on the walls etc. etc. They can't just put an american bar into russia, especially when they want to sell the idea that it existed before the combine invasion.

except for that small realism leak, valve created the best gaming experience i had in 2007. i played every major title.

Well, inns are usually built for tourists and english being the accepted international language I don't see a problem here with the sign.

They can't just put an american bar into russia ...
Well, they can, actually, but nobody ever said it was American, and nobody ever said it was a bar either.

Prior to the Combine's invasion, it probably stands to reason that White Forest was called something besides White Forest in Russian (or whatever Slavic language in use in that region), and was only given that name on signs by the inhabitants of City 17 in the aftermath of the invasion.

Yes, that's some horrific game design right there. Totally screwed the pooch on realism this time.
