Who playtested HL2 before it was out?

I'm talking about the guys who went and playtested HL2 in the summer. There was this one guy who played the ending and there were others too... Just a question for you people. Did you see anything different from the final product? Can you give us any details?

i played cs:s in beta testing before release and it ran fine no errors whatsoever... then they released it for purchase and guess what happend

I went to VALVe towards the end of the summer (I remember it was when Doom 3 was first released since they had it playing on the big conference room monitor ).

I think we can talk about what we played that made it into the actual game. At least that's what the NDA sounds like. In my case, it doesn't make very much of a difference since what I played was nearly identical to the final game (sans a few bugs).

I was able to play the first bit of the game back in July at Valve. The only thing that really changed from then to release was general stability, loading times, and performance (although I was playing a debug build anyways, and that probably accounts for the few problems I saw). I also noticed that the G-Man intro was absent from the version I had played, and when I asked if the train sequence was the true beginning (I thought for sure going in it would be something with the G-Man) I was told that it was.
