Why Alyx is on one of the boxes?

Everybody says that Alyx is part of something bigger. But it just probably just a marketing ploy that she is on the halflife box. But why? Why her? Damn this is going to bug me for the next 6 years until HL3 comes out. ;(

They were initially going to release three different boxes. The G-Man was on another. I can't remember if that wa just for fun or whether one would have single-player only, the other single and multi-player, etc. In the end it just didn't happen.
And I don't think we'll have to wait five years to find out more about Alyx...

Those three images on the collectors edition are the three different boxes. I am too lazy to try and find pictures of those. But I know all three exist, as I have seen them.

If you go to Circuit City in the US. There is four different boxes: G-Man, Gordon Freeman, Alyx, and Collector's Edition. I have the Alyx one.

There is DEFINITLY more than one box. Get out of your house/dorm/apartment once a month and you'll see.
