Simple, not everyone has broadband/enjoys MP
Im admittedly more of a SP guy, but I still love MP

Read the sticky, this has been asked and answered a lot of times.

EDIT - Where's the sticky?

i dont think is the brightest idea either.

uhh now there marketing an upgrade to mp for a fee oh please  this is just stupid

I dont think there marketing to sp dialup people as much as trying to take money out of idiots pockets.. it seems

dont worry I still love valve

BUZZZZZZ. Minus 10 points. HL single player was light-years ahead of anything at the time. REGARDLESS of it's MP. The multiplayer addons made it even MORE popular not to mention one of the greatest gaming deals of all time.

It is also an indication that MP would be completely different from the theme of HL2.

It will be cheaper so you can buy it if you don't want to play multiplayer.

If you buy it then you decide you'd like to try multiplayer you can upgrade it and it would be exactly the same as buying the Traditional version in store.

Something tells me Valve isn't stupid enough to not make it clear on the box whether or not its just single player or the regular version. This would be financial suicide for any company to make a marketing decision like this and not inform the consumer about it. Did you expect EB to get some-odd number of returns from frustrated customers claiming 'What the hell is this? Theres no multiplayer!' At which point, in reality, the person behind the counter would either say real slow-like (for them to understand), or point to the box, to get it across to them that its been properly labeled as such.

SP Half Life ruled. Im more of a SP fanatic myself, but I still play MP from time to time.

well like it or not valve owes alot of its fame to hl's mods

sp was revolutionary 2 tho

Word. What do you think was better, HL single player or the 'They Hunger' trilogy? No game (yeah, I know its a mod) has ever scared me so much as 'Hunger' has.

Are you serious? because... I was laughing most of the time

I mean that poorly skinned green haired woman zombie bellowing "mommmmy's hungry" was just halarious

I pre-orderd mine, lmao
im screwed if they send me the SP only!
all i do is play MP and make small MODs.

I dont think it was a very good idea.... i mean, if you get SP and you get sick of it, you want to play MP or a MOD, haha.
Its just stupid.... Maybe its a trick and Vavle are bsing about it, and its only going to be HL2 with all the stuff.
im confused and scared *sigh* :(

man if u dont want to buy just the SP of hl2, then DONT...its simple as that. valve will market the way way they want to.

I actually thought that was scary. Great presentation when she pulls back the curtain, and then turns around, and you know shes a zombie. Neil Manke, next to Valve, I think is the best at working with the HL engine and its scripted sequence capabilities.

yeah, well i didnt find it that scary, BUT im hoping for a sequel/remake on the source engine, now if Neil can use the same ingenuity as They hunger 1-3 but... actually scary (cant blame em, its a little behind its times)

oh yeah

But what If you've pre-ordered it like some of us?

seriously man, how old are you?? if u pre-ordered it, than u pick which one u want. if u want only SP then PICK that. if u want SP\MP than get that. its not that F*CKING hard to understand.

btw, i did pre-order my copy at EB. i will be there to pick it up, and make sure that i HAVE the SP\MP version.

But i pre-ordered it at Software Etc.

And they suck

They're not the kind to give you... selection, and choice, and freedom

Kidding

Because its the only game store in this area

im not driving 15 miles to get hl2

I pre-ordered from EBX, and I told the guy "I would like the SP/MP version of that please..." and he was like "....uh."

Some dudes don't dig multiplayer. I've on 56k, but I still love MP. Normally, I get crappy ping, so I usually resort to playing against bots or just play the SP over and over. I get decent ping on CS though. About 190-220 for my average ping in CS. If they've improved the net code in HL2, them i Might be able to expect slightly better ping or at least the same ping ith detail turned up....

he might not know about it now, but he WILL know when it actually comes out.

To say HL became popular because of the multi-player aspect is foolish.

To say HL is popular because of the multi-player aspect, is not.

HL won many awards for a reason. People saw/see what the game engine could/can do, and work with it from there.
