wtf happened on Highway 17?

I don't think it's a case of taking the gas stations....it's been two decades, I think gas would have run out a little.

Does it matter? They are there just to show us that most of earth is wasteland now.

Yeah, the truck and Combine soldier body is certainly something that happened within a few weeks of Gordons arrival.

The body looks fresh to me :|
Where can you actually see anything that we know would decay quick enough to indicate freshness of a dead Combine soldier's body? There is no visible flesh, and the properties of the materials in the armor are a mystery.

Hehe.

Alright, look:

- During the Portal Storms, a car is driving along the road in a storm when suddenly a huge creature appears on the road. The driver swerves to avoid it and ends up crashing. He tries to escape but is eaten.
- Another car comes along and crashes in much the same way.
- Next, a truck comes barelling along the road post-invasion, turns a corner, sees the wrecked cars too late, hits them and flips.
- All subsequent traffic either crashes, adding to the pile-up, or is forced to stop because the road is blocked.

Pile-ups can develop very quickly from just one single crash - a crash that would be more than likely in the conditions of the gameworld.

Only one decade, isn't it?

Three to Sulkdodds, one to the rest of us. :dozey:
Though, I never knew you assumed 20 years. :p

Well, I just remember arguments about how long it was and I claimed it had to be close to 20 years due to Eli's comment about carrying Alyx, who's clearly a grown woman, out of Black Mesa. Hahaha!

There are some corpses, actually quite a bit by the highways. Some in corners and caves where a person could seek shelter, but many other places don't have any corpses simply because it's been 20 years. Most likely even the bones have been ground and eaten by now, but there are still many corpses on the highway. Just usually in some secluded sector with headcrabs in the area.

Wouldnt most of the bodies been vapourised by the energy ball from the combine pulse rifle? That would explain it I think, that as the cars were driving up the highway, the combine would simply open up with their rifles just for the fun of it?

lol if anyones said this or it sounds stupid, just hit me :P

I'd hit it.

i thinck your right xen aliens are some of the baddest ive ever seen and i garentee raven holm tried to put up a fight wich is why east mesa conects there and why so many weapons litter the streets but i also thinck the combine didnt want to have the xen bugs here the just kinda flooded uncontrollibly throu

Uh....Ravenholm did put up a fight against the COMBINE, instead of waisting soldiers on such a small area they just shot a bunch of those missles full of headcrabs, which is obviously clear considering all the rockets u see throughtout that area, and lets not forget the headcrab zombies......(shudders)
